Prezista (Darunavir)

Do’s

• Take Prezista exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, always with food.
• Take it at the same time(s) every day for best results.
• Use a measuring device/spoon provided for the liquid form, not a household spoon.
• Continue taking Prezista consistently, along with other HIV medications, even if you feel well.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any lab tests or changes in your medical condition.

Don'ts

• Don't take more or less than the prescribed dosage.
• Don't stop taking Prezista (or other HIV medications) without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't crush, chew, or break the tablets unless your healthcare provider instructs you to do so. (Applies if taking tablets)
• Don't skip doses or change your dosing schedule without your healthcare provider's approval.

Common side effects:

• Skin rash
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Stomach pain
• Changes in the shape or location of body fat
• Headache
• Vomiting
• Flushed, dry skin
• Fruit-like breath odor
• Blurred vision
• Chills
• Cough
• Dry mouth
• Immune system effects, such as fever, night sweats, swollen glands, cold sores, cough, wheezing, diarrhea, and weight loss
• Changes in mood, including thoughts of harming oneself or suicide
• Increased bleeding for individuals with hemophilia
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• Rash

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
• Unexplained weight loss
• Severe tiredness
• Muscle aches/weakness that doesn't go away
• Severe or persistent headaches
• Signs of a new infection, such as fever, night sweats, swollen glands, cold sores, cough, wheezing, diarrhea, or weight loss
• Trouble speaking or swallowing, problems with balance or eye movement, weakness, or prickly feeling
• Swelling in the neck or throat (enlarged thyroid)
• Serious allergic reactions, including facial swelling, hives, rash, itchy skin, blistering or peeling of the skin, body aches, and trouble breathing
• Serious liver problems, including nausea, vomiting, and not feeling well

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Prezista,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Discuss any allergies you have with your healthcare provider before taking Prezista.

Tell your healthcare provider about specific health issues you have, including liver problems, diabetes, hemophilia, high cholesterol/triglycerides, or heart problems.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Prezista, before any surgery.

Talk to your healthcare provider if you're pregnant to discuss the potential benefits of Prezista in reducing the risk of transmitting HIV to your baby.

Consult with your healthcare provider before breastfeeding due to Prezista passing into breast milk and the risk of HIV transmission.
