Cyclogyl Drops are used prior to eye examinations, particularly for refraction exams, to facilitate the process.

This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as anticholinergics. The active ingredient, cyclopentolate, works by temporarily widening (dilating) the pupil of the eye and relaxing the eye muscles, thereby aiding in the examination process.

Do’s

  • Use Cyclogyl exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, including the dosage and timing (usually 40-50 minutes before a procedure).
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the drops.
  • Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch for the medication.
  • Apply the prescribed number of drops into the pouch while keeping the dropper tip away from your eye and other surfaces.
  • Gently close your eyes for 1-2 minutes and press on the inner corner of your eye to prevent drainage.
  • Avoid blinking or rubbing your eyes.
  • If it is used in another eye, repeat the steps.
  • Replace the cap securely after use.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if you experience blurred vision, light sensitivity, or dilated pupils for several days after your exam.

Don'ts

  • Don't take Cyclogyl by mouth or inject it.
  • Don't touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
  • Don't use Cyclogyl if you're wearing contact lenses without consulting your healthcare provider about lens use.
  • Don't rinse the dropper.
  • Don't use more Cyclogyl than prescribed.
  • Don't feed an infant for 4 hours after using Cyclogyl in their eye(s).
