Cyclogyl (Cyclopentolate Hcl Drops)

Do’s

• Use Cyclogyl exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, including the dosage and timing (usually 40-50 minutes before a procedure).
• Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the drops.
• Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch for the medication.
• Apply the prescribed number of drops into the pouch while keeping the dropper tip away from your eye and other surfaces.
• Gently close your eyes for 1-2 minutes and press on the inner corner of your eye to prevent drainage.
• Avoid blinking or rubbing your eyes.
• If it is used in another eye, repeat the steps.
• Replace the cap securely after use.
• Inform your healthcare provider if you experience blurred vision, light sensitivity, or dilated pupils for several days after your exam.

Don'ts

• Don't take Cyclogyl by mouth or inject it.
• Don't touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
• Don't use Cyclogyl if you're wearing contact lenses without consulting your healthcare provider about lens use.
• Don't rinse the dropper.
• Don't use more Cyclogyl than prescribed.
• Don't feed an infant for 4 hours after using Cyclogyl in their eye(s).

Common side effects may include:

• Blurred vision
• Mild eye irritation or redness
• Puffy eyelids
• Increased sensitivity to light

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Loss of coordination
• Unusual changes in behavior
• Restlessness or excitement
• Confusion, speech problems
• Feeding problems, stomach bloating

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Cyclogyl,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to cyclopentolate, belladonna alkaloids (like atropine), or inactive ingredients (especially benzalkonium chloride).

Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have:

• Personal or family history of glaucoma (angle-closure type)
• Down's syndrome
• Brain damage or spastic paralysis (in children)
• Heart disease

Cyclogyl Drops can cause temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until your vision returns to normal.

This medication may increase light sensitivity. Use sunglasses for sun protection.

Infants and young children may be more susceptible to side effects, particularly mental/mood changes. Monitor them closely for 30 minutes after application.

Increased risk of side effects like high eye pressure in older adults.

Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using Cyclogyl Drops during pregnancy. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as information on Cyclogyl Drops passing into breast milk is unknown.
