Diprolene lotion is a prescription topical medication used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash. 

The active ingredient in Diprolene is betamethasone, which is a corticosteroid that reduces swelling, itching, and redness associated with these conditions 

Do’s

  • Use only as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Follow their instructions for application frequency and duration.
  • Shake well before each use. Ensure the medication is evenly mixed.
  • Wash and dry your hands. Before and after applying, unless treating hands.
  • Clean and dry affected area. Apply medication to clean, dry skin.
  • Apply a thin film. A few drops are enough to cover the area. Gently massage until absorbed.

Don'ts

  • Don't exceed 50 mL of lotion per week.
  • Don't use occlusive dressings (bandages) unless directed by your healthcare provider. These can increase medication absorption and side effects.
  • Don't get in your eyes: Rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs.
  • Don't stop using abruptly without talking to your healthcare provider.

Common side effects:

  • Burning, itching, irritation, redness, dryness, or peeling at the application site (especially when first applied)

Serious Side Effects:

  • Severe skin irritation where the medicine was applied
  • Signs of skin infection (swelling, redness, warmth, oozing)
  • Thinning or discoloration of the skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne
  • Excessive hair growth

Diprolene lotion if you are allergic to betamethasone or any other ingredients in the medication.

Do not use Diprolene lotion on infected or open wounds.

Avoid using Diprolene lotion with occlusive dressings (bandages that don't breathe) unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Avoid using Diprolene lotion on the face, groin, or underarms for extended periods unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Wash hands after applying Diprolene lotion.

Be aware that long-term or extensive use of Diprolene lotion may:

  • Weaken your body's ability to respond to physical stress (inform your healthcare provider before surgery or serious illness).
  • Slightly slow down growth in children (schedule regular checkups with your healthcare provider).

Consult your healthcare provider before using Diprolene lotion if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Diprolene lotion may increase sun sensitivity. Limit sun exposure, use sunscreen, and wear protective clothing.
