Naprosyn SR (Naproxen)

Do’s

• Take Naprosyn SR exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The usual dose is one tablet once a day.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. 
• Take Naprosyn SR at approximately the same time each day. If you have trouble remembering when to take it, you can ask your healthcare provider for some hints or reminders.
• You can take Naprosyn SR with or without food. However, taking it after a meal may help reduce the possibility of an upset stomach.
• If you are taking Naprosyn SR for arthritis, it will not cure your condition but it should help in managing pain, swelling, and stiffness. 
• For arthritis, Naprosyn SR should be taken every day for as long as your healthcare provider prescribes. 
• If you forget to take a dose of Naprosyn SR and it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. If you remember the missed dose later, take it as soon as you remember and then resume your regular dosing schedule.

Don’ts

• Do not chew the tablet.
• Do not take Naprosyn SR for a longer duration than instructed by your healthcare provider. 
• Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. 

Common Side Effects:

• Upset stomach or stomach pain
• Heartburn
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Drowsiness
• Skin rash or itching

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
• Signs of gastrointestinal bleeding (black, tarry stools or blood in vomit)
• Signs of liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, persistent nausea)
• Signs of kidney problems (decreased urination, swelling in ankles or feet, unusual tiredness)
• Signs of heart problems (chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden weight gain)
• Signs of severe skin reaction (blistering or peeling skin, rash, sores in mouth)
• Signs of blood disorder (unusual bleeding or bruising)

Seek medical attention if you experience severe or persistent side effects while taking Naprosyn SR. Your healthcare provider can provide guidance on managing these side effects and determine if any adjustments to your treatment are necessary.

Naprosyn SR should not be used just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG). If you experience chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance, seek emergency medical help.

Naprosyn SR may increase the risk of stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. This risk is especially higher in older adults.

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss the use of Naprosyn SR with your healthcare provider. They can provide guidance on the potential risks and benefits.

Naprosyn SR should be used with caution in patients with certain medical conditions, such as coagulation disorders or renal impairment. Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider before starting Naprosyn SR.
