Prednisolone (Prednisolone)

Do’s

• The dosage and length of treatment of prednisolone are based on the individual's medical condition and response to treatment. Follow the prescribed dosing schedule carefully.
• Prednisolone should be taken by mouth with a glass of water, and it is advisable to take it with food or milk to avoid stomach upset. 
• Your healthcare provider may direct you to take this medication 1 to 4 times a day or take a single dose every other day. It may be helpful to mark a calendar with reminders or use a pill box to stay organized.
• If any new or worsening symptoms occur or if the condition persists or worsens, inform your healthcare provider promptly. 

Don’ts

• Do not stop taking this medication without consulting a healthcare provider, as some conditions may worsen when the drug is suddenly stopped. If the doctor advises stopping the medication, the dose may need to be gradually decreased to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
• Do not take more of this medication than directed.

Allergic Reactions: 

While rare, serious allergic reactions to prednisolone may occur. Symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately

Avoid using prednisolone if you have a fungal infection anywhere in your body. Additionally, if you are allergic to prednisolone, it should not be used.

If prednisolone is taken for an extended period or at a high dose, a steroid emergency card may be necessary. This is particularly important for individuals with certain adrenal or pituitary disorders.

Taking prednisolone can make individuals more susceptible to infections. Inform your healthcare provider if an infection occurs or if there is exposure to infectious illnesses like chickenpox, shingles, or measles.

While on corticosteroid therapy, patients should not be vaccinated against smallpox. Other immunization procedures should not be undertaken, especially on high doses, due to possible hazards of neurological complications and a lack of antibody response.

Discuss with a healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as prednisolone may cause side effects in children born to individuals who took the drug during pregnancy and passes it into breast milk.
