Tiazac XC (Diltiazem ER)

Do’s

• The usual recommended starting dose of Tiazac XC is between 180 mg and 240 mg daily. The maximum daily dose is 360 mg.
• Tiazac XC should be taken once daily, at bedtime. It may be taken with or without food, but it should be taken the same way every time (always with food or always without food). 
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your healthcare provider for advice.
• Store Tiazac XC at room temperature, protect it from moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.
• Many factors can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. Take Tiazac XC exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Do not crush or chew the tablet.
• If your healthcare provider has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way you are taking the medication without consulting them.
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Common Side Effects:

• Facial edema
• Hyperhidrosis/sweating
• Hyperpigmentation
• Leukocytoclastic vasculitis
• Petechiae
• Photosensitivity
• Pruritus

Many of these side effects can be managed, and some may go away on their own over time.

Allergic reactions: 

• Seek immediate medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or throat.

Severe skin reaction: 

• In rare cases, Tiazac XC may cause severe skin reactions, including fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, or a red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling. If you experience these symptoms, seek medical attention.

If you have a known allergy to diltiazem (the active ingredient in Tiazac XC) or any other ingredients in the medication, you should not take Tiazac XC. Allergic reactions to Tiazac XC can be serious and may require immediate medical attention.

Tiazac XC should be used with caution in individuals with certain heart conditions, such as heart failure or a slow heart rate. Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider before starting Tiazac XC.

Tiazac XC should be used with caution in individuals with liver or kidney problems. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosage or monitor your liver and kidney function while you are taking Tiazac XC.

Tiazac XC can cause a decrease in blood pressure. If you already have low blood pressure or are taking other medications that lower blood pressure, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dosage or monitor your blood pressure closely.

Tiazac XC may interact with other medications, including certain antibiotics, antifungal medications, and medications used to treat HIV/AIDS. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products.

Tiazac XC should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding.
