Detrol LA (Tolterodine LA)

Do’s

• Before starting to use Detrol LA and each time you get a refill, read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for guidance.
• Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, typically once a day. Swallow the medication whole with a full glass of liquid.
• Use this medication regularly to obtain the maximum benefit from it. To aid in remembering, take it at the same time each day
• The appropriate dosage is determined based on your medical condition, especially kidney and liver health, response to treatment, and concurrent medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all the products you are using, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products. 
• If your condition persists or worsens, inform your healthcare provider

Don’ts

• Do not crush or chew the medication, as doing so can compromise the long action of the drug and potentially increase the occurrence of side effects.
• Do not exceed the prescribed dose or take this medication more frequently than directed. Doing so will not accelerate the improvement of your condition and may elevate the risk of serious side effects.

Common Side Effects: 

• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Constipation

Detrol LA may also cause serious side effects. Discontinue use and promptly contact your healthcare provider if you experience any serious side effects while using Detrol LA.

Detro LA should not be used during pregnancy as it may harm an unborn baby. It is also not recommended for use while breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and harm a nursing infant.

Patients with impaired kidney function should use Detro LA with caution, as the medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for individuals with kidney impairment.

Individuals with liver disease should also use Detro LA with caution, as the medication's metabolism may be affected in these patients. Close monitoring and potential dosage adjustments may be necessary
