Description

Toviaz Product Description

Fesoterodine (Toviaz) is a drug used to treat overactive bladder syndrome. The European Medicines Agency licensed it for sale in April 2007 and Health Canada authorized it for sale in February 2012.

Fesoterodine is metabolized into a prodrug.

Toviaz Uses

  • Toviaz (fesoterodine) relieves spasms of the bladder muscles.
  • It is used to treat overactive bladder in adults who have symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency, and incontinence.
  • It is also used to treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity in children at least 6 years old with weights of over 55 pounds (25 kg).

 Toviaz Doses

  • Toviaz 4 mg orally once a day
  • Toviaz 8 mg taken once a day
  • Medication dosage may change after the first week if your kid weighs more than 77 pounds (35 kg), and the child has severe kidney problems or is taking certain medicines.

Toviaz Directions

  • This medication may be taken by mouth, with or without food, typically once per day, or as recommended by your doctor.
  • Swallow each dose with a full glass of liquid.
  • Avoid breaking and taking extended-release tablets.
  • Doing so may cause all of the drugs to be released at once, increasing the chance of side effects.
  • In addition, do not split the tablets unless a scoring line appears on the pill and your health care provider tells you to do so.
  • Breaking or opening the pill could cause too much of the medicine to be released at one time.

Toviaz Cautions

  • You shouldn’t take this medication if you have uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, or if you have blockage of the urinary tract, stomach, or intestines.
  • Don’t get too sweaty or dehydrated during activity or in hot weather. It’s possible to use an isohydric beverage to minimize sweating, making you more susceptible to heat stroke.
  • The use of alcohol may heighten the side effects of fesoterodine.
  • There are other drugs that can interact with fesoterodine.
  • Schedule an appointment with your doctor, so that he can learn of all of your medications.
  • Prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products are included in this item. Do not start a new medication without discussing it with your physician.
  • Keep a catalog of all the medicines you take and show it to your doctor.

Toviaz Side Effects

  • One of Toviaz side effects is weight gain.
  • It might impair thinking or reactions or cause blurred vision. Take care if you drive and have to go through any activities where you need good vision and alertness.

If you see signs of a serious allergic reaction to this medication, seek emergency medical help as soon as possible. Call your doctor if you have the following:

  • Significant stomach pain or constipation;
  • A weak flow of urine,
  • Or trouble urinating;
  • Little or no urination;
  • Or dizziness,
  • Drowsiness.

Toviaz Side Effects (Elderly)

There are some potential side effects that can occur in the elderly population that take this medication. Some of these side effects include confusion, dizziness, and falls.
