Toviaz (Fesoterodine Fumarate)

Do’s

• The dosage of Toviaz is typically based on the individual's medical condition, other medications being taken, and the response to treatment. Follow the specific dosage prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Toviaz is usually taken by mouth, with or without food, as directed by a healthcare provider, typically once a day. Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of liquid.
• Use Toviaz regularly to get the most benefit from it. It should be taken at the same time each day to maintain consistency.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens while taking Toviaz.

Don’ts

• Do not crush or chew the tablets, as doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
• Do not increase your dose or take Toviaz more often without your healthcare provider's approval, as doing so may not improve the condition any faster and could increase the risk of serious side effects.

• Blurred vision
• Drowsiness
• Heat prostration
• Hypersensitivity reactions: this may include angioedema with airway obstruction and face edema
• Constipation
• Urinary retention
• Abdominal pain
• Back pain
• Cough
• Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders such as urticaria and pruritus

Not all individuals may experience these side effects, and some side effects may be temporary or manageable. Patients should consult their healthcare provider for personalized information and guidance.

Angioedema of the face, lips, tongue, and/or larynx has been reported with Toviaz. In some cases, angioedema occurs after the first dose, and it may be life-threatening if it leads to upper airway swelling. If any signs of angioedema occur, such as edema of the lips, tongue, or laryngopharynx, or difficulty breathing, Toviaz should be promptly discontinued, and immediate medical attention should be sought.

Patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to Toviaz or any of its ingredients should not take Toviaz.

The use of Toviaz in patients with clinically significant bladder outlet obstruction, including patients with urinary retention, may result in further urinary retention and kidney injury. Therefore, the use of Toviaz is not recommended in patients with clinically significant bladder outlet obstruction and is contraindicated.

Patients should be informed that alcohol may enhance the drowsiness caused by Toviaz, like other anticholinergic agents. Therefore, caution should be exercised when consuming alcohol while taking Toviaz.

Toviaz, like other antimuscarinic drugs, is associated with increased heart rate that correlates with increasing dose. Healthcare providers should use caution when prescribing Toviaz to patients with certain pre-existing cardiac conditions, such as ischemic heart disease, congestive heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, or tachycardia.
