Nalcrom (Cromoglycate sodium)

Do’s

• The dosage of Nalcrom may vary depending on individual factors such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications being taken. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions and consult them if you have any questions or concerns.
• The usual recommended adult dose of Nalcrom is 2 capsules taken 4 times daily, 15 to 20 minutes before meals. 
• For children aged 2 to 14 years, the usual recommended dose is 1 capsule taken 4 times daily, 15 to 20 minutes before meals. 
• Your healthcare provider may suggest a higher dose if your symptoms are not controlled by the usual recommended dose. 
• The maximum dose is 40 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. Once your symptoms are controlled, your healthcare provider may suggest decreasing the dose until the lowest effective dose is found.
• Take Nalcrom exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The capsules can be swallowed whole with water or the contents of the capsule can be dissolved in a small amount of very hot water and then diluted with cold water before drinking. 
• If you forget a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. 

Don’ts

• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Rash

Rare Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions, such as hives, itching, or swelling
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing
• Chest tightness or pain
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Dark urine
• Persistent sore throat or fever

Do not take Nalcrom if you are allergic to sodium cromoglycate or any of the ingredients in the medication.

It is not known if sodium cromoglycate passes into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding and are taking this medication, it may affect your baby. Talk to your healthcare provider about whether you should continue breastfeeding.

Patients should be cautious about suddenly discontinuing therapy when symptoms have been partially or completely controlled. Care should be taken, especially if steroid and/or salazopyrine dosage has been reduced during sodium cromoglycate treatment. The optimum dose required to maintain remission will need to be determined for each patient.

Clinical experience with Nalcrom is limited, and patients should be carefully observed while undergoing treatment.

Store Nalcrom in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep it out of the reach and sight of children.
