Besivance Suspension is used to treat bacterial eye infections and contains the active ingredient besifloxacin.

Besifloxacin belongs to a class of drugs known as quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the eye, thereby treating the infection.

Besivance Suspension is specifically for bacterial eye infections and will not work for other types of eye infections, such as those caused by viruses, fungi, or mycobacteria. Using Besivance for other types of eye infections may be ineffective and can contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance.

Do’s

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before using Besivance.
  • Shake the closed dropper bottle upside down once before each use.
  • Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch.
  • Apply one drop into the pouch while holding the dropper directly over your eye.
  • Gently close your eyes for 1-2 minutes, applying pressure near your nose to prevent drainage.
  • Repeat for the other eye if directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Use Besivance exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically 3 times daily with at least 4-12 hours between doses.
  • Continue using Besivance for the full prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve.
  • If using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between Besivance and other drops or ointments.
  • Use eye drops before ointments.
  • Wait for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.
  • Tell your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve in a few days or if you experience new or worsening eye symptoms.

Don'ts

  • Don't touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
  • Don't rinse the dropper after use, replace the cap securely.
  • Don't wear contact lenses while using Besivance or during a bacterial eye infection.
  • Don't stop using Besivance abruptly without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Don't exceed the prescribed dosage or frequency of Besivance.
  • Don't blink or rub your eye immediately after applying the drops.
