Latuda is used to treat Schizophrenia, a mental disorder that causes people to lose touch with reality (have hallucinations or delusions).

It can be also indicated to treat depression associated with bipolar disorder (also known as manic-depressive illness), a brain disorder that causes extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania) and lows (depression).

Latuda belongs to a class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics. These medications work differently than older antipsychotic medications and may cause fewer side effects.

Latuda works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. This is thought to improve symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
