Ilotycin Eye Ointment (Erythromycin)

Do’s

• Wash Up: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after using the ointment.
• Form a Pouch: Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a pocket for the medication.
• Apply Wisely: Squeeze a thin strip of ointment (about 1/2 inch or 1 centimeter) into the pouch, as directed by your healthcare provider.
• Spread the Medication: Close your eye gently and roll your eyeball in all directions to spread the ointment.
• Minimize Blinking: Avoid blinking or rubbing your eye for a few moments.
• Repeat if Needed: Follow the same steps for your other eye if your healthcare provider prescribed it for both.
• Clean the Tube: Wipe off any excess ointment from the tip of the tube with a clean tissue.

Don'ts

• Don't contaminate the Ointment: Don't touch the tip of the tube to your eye, fingers, or any other surface.
• Don't overuse the Medication: Don't use more ointment or use it more often than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't exceed Treatment Duration: Don't use the ointment for longer than your healthcare provider recommends.
• Don't share with Others: This medication is for you only, don't share it with anyone else.
• Don't use Expired Ointment: Check the expiry date and discard expired Ilotycin eye ointment.
• Don't use Contact Lenses: Remove your contact lenses before applying the ointment. Ask your healthcare provider when it's safe to put them back in.
• Don't touch your eyelashes: Be careful not to let the tip of the tube touch your eyelashes.
• Don't ignore Side Effects: If you experience any burning, stinging, or itching after using the ointment, contact your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects:

• New or worsening eye symptoms: This may include pain, swelling, thick discharge, or pus
• Blurred vision
• Burning, stinging, or itching of the eyes or eyelids

Serious Side Effects:

• Sudden vision loss
• Blurred vision.
• Tunnel vision
• Eye pain or swelling
• Seeing halos around lights

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Ilotycin eye ointment, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider if you have any allergies to erythromycin or other macrolide antibiotics before using Ilotycin. 

If your eye infection seems to worsen after using Ilotycin for a few days, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider. 

Using Ilotycin eye ointment for extended periods may increase the risk of developing fungal infections in the eye. Talk to your healthcare provider about the appropriate duration of treatment for your specific condition.

Discuss with your healthcare provider the potential risks and benefits of using Ilotycin eye ointment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Consult your healthcare provider about using contact lenses while on Ilotycin eye ointment treatment. You might need to temporarily switch to glasses while using the medication.

Ilotycin eye ointment may cause temporary blurred vision after application. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring clear vision until your vision returns to normal.

Do not touch the tip of the applicator to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after using the ointment.

Avoid sharing Ilotycin eye ointment with others, even if they have similar symptoms.
