Clomid treats infertility in women. It is intended for those struggling to conceive due to issues with ovulation. Clomid works by increasing the production of hormones that help an egg mature and be released from the ovary (ovulation). This medication is not recommended for women whose ovaries are no longer capable of producing eggs due to primary pituitary or ovarian failure.
Do's
  • Take Clomiphene exactly as prescribed by your doctor for maximum effectiveness.

Don'ts

Serious Side Effects:
  • Allergic reactions (rare but may include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing)
  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) - a potentially serious condition characterized by enlarged ovaries and fluid retention

  • Ovarian cysts or enlarged ovaries (excluding those caused by PCOS)
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Liver disease
  • Uterine problems (fibroids, endometriosis)
  • Thyroid/adrenal gland issues
  • Brain tumors (pituitary)
  • High blood fat/triglyceride levels
Inform your healthcare provider of any allergies you have, including to Clomid or its inactive ingredients. Be aware that Clomid increases the chance of having multiple births (twins, triplets). Clomid may cause dizziness and vision changes. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until you know how Clomid affects you. Limit alcohol and marijuana (cannabis) as they can further increase dizziness. Clomid is contraindicated during pregnancy and can harm the developing fetus. Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you suspect pregnancy. The effect of Clomid on breast milk and milk production is unknown. Discuss breastfeeding with your healthcare provider before making a decision.
