Lithmax (Lithium Carbonate ER)

Do’s

• The dosage of Lithmax is based on your medical condition, lithium blood levels, and response to treatment. The dose may be started at a lower level depending on individual circumstances.
• Lithmax should be taken by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider. It is usually taken 2-3 times daily.
• Take Lithmax with or immediately after meals to lessen stomach upset. 
• Swallow the tablets whole with some water. Only split the tablets if they have a score line and your healthcare provider tells you to do so. Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing it.
• Drink 8 to 12 glasses (8 ounces or 240 milliliters each) of water or other fluids each day while taking Lithmax. Additionally, eat a healthy diet with normal amounts of salt (sodium) as directed by your healthcare provider. Large changes in the amount of salt in your diet may change your lithium blood levels.
• To get the most benefit from Lithmax, take it regularly at the same times each day. This helps to keep the amount of the drug in your body at a constant level. Take it at evenly spaced intervals.
• Continue taking Lithmax even if you feel well. It may take 1 to 3 weeks to notice an improvement in your condition while taking Lithmax.
• If you have any concerns or notice that your condition is not improving or worsening, consult your healthcare provider for more details.
• If you miss a dose of Lithmax, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.

Don’ts

• Do not crush or chew the tablets, as doing so can release all of the drugs at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
• Do not change the amount of salt in your diet unless your healthcare provider tells you to do so.
• Do not stop taking this drug without consulting your healthcare provider, as some conditions may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped.
• Do not double the next dose to catch up on the missed one.

Dehydration can increase the risk of lithium toxicity. Be cautious of excessive sweating, diarrhea, vomiting, or any condition that may lead to dehydration. If you experience these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Some medications may interact with Lithmax and cause adverse effects.

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss the risks and benefits of taking Lithmax with your healthcare provider.
