Tapazole (Methimazole)

Do’s

• The dosage of Tapazole is contingent upon your medical condition and response to treatment. For pediatric patients, the dosage is also determined based on their weight.
• Take this medication by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, with or without food, typically 1 to 3 times a day.
• Take this medication exactly as directed. Take it regularly to derive the maximum benefit from it. To facilitate adherence, take it at the same time(s) each day.
• If your condition does not show improvement or worsens, promptly inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Avoid increasing the dose or taking this medication more frequently than prescribed, as doing so will not expedite the improvement of your condition and may elevate the risk of side effects.
• Do not discontinue taking this medication without consulting your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects: 

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Upset stomach
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Numbness or tingling feeling
• Rash
• Itching
• Skin discoloration
• Muscle or joint pain
• Decreased sense of taste 

Serious Side Effects:

• Swollen glands in the neck or jaw
• Liver problems (manifested as nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice)
• Bleeding gums
• Chest pain
• Difficulty in breathing
• Unusual sensations 

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects, and other effects may occur. If you experience any concerning symptoms, seek medical advice promptly. 

Store Tapazole at room temperature away from light and moisture. Consult the pharmacist for specific storage temperature ranges, and keep all medications away from children and pets. Properly discard the product when it is expired or no longer needed.

Do not use Tapazole if pregnant or breastfeeding, as it may cause harm to the unborn baby. Inform the healthcare provider about pregnancy or plans for pregnancy while using this medication

Individuals allergic to Tapazole or those with certain medical conditions such as liver disease, a blood cell disorder, or a weak immune system should not use Tapazole. Discuss medical conditions and allergies with the healthcare provider before using this medication.

Before using Tapazole, inform the healthcare provider about all medical conditions, allergies, and medications being taken. Close surveillance and immediate reporting of any evidence of illness, particularly sore throat, skin eruptions, fever, headache, or general malaise, is recommended. Additionally, exercise caution with patients receiving additional drugs known to cause agranulocytosis.
