Lutrepulse (gonadorelin) is indicated for several purposes. Here are the main indications for Lutrepulse:

  1. Evaluating the functional capacity and response of the gonadotropes of the anterior pituitary: Lutrepulse is used as a single injection to assess the functional capacity and response of the gonadotropes of the anterior pituitary. This test is useful in evaluating patients with suspected gonadotropin deficiency, whether due to the hypothalamus alone or in combination with anterior pituitary failure.
  2. Evaluating the residual gonadotropic function of the pituitary following removal of a pituitary tumor by surgery: Lutrepulse is also indicated for evaluating the residual gonadotropic function of the pituitary after the surgical removal of a pituitary tumor.
  3. Restoring physiologic ovulatory function in women with diminished or absent pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion: In a study conducted on women with primary and secondary hypothalamic amenorrhea, Lutrepulse was found to be extremely effective in restoring ovulation, with ovulation occurring in 91% and 96% of patients, respectively.
  4. Replacement therapy of endogenous GnRH deficiency for the treatment of infertility in women and men: Lutrepulse is used as a replacement therapy for endogenous GnRH deficiency in the treatment of infertility in both women and men.

These side effects have been reported by at least 1% of people using Lutrepulse. Not everyone will experience these side effects, and many of them can be managed or may go away on their own over time.

In rare cases, Lutrepulse may cause allergic reactions. If you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives, seek emergency medical attention.

Lutrepulse may interact with other medications you are taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications, supplements, and herbal products you are currently using to avoid any potential interactions.

Ovarian hyperstimulation, a condition characterized by enlarged ovaries and fluid accumulation in the abdomen, has been reported in some cases. This may be related to the dosage or concomitant use of other ovulation stimulators. Adhere to the recommended doses and undergo appropriate monitoring of follicle formation to minimize the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation.
