Drontal Plus (Praziquantel)

Do’s

• Drontal Plus is available in chewable tablet form for dogs and is administered orally.
• The tablets may be given directly by mouth or offered in a small amount of food. Fasting is neither necessary nor recommended prior to or after treatment.
• The dosage of Drontal Plus depends on the size of the dog. The tablets are available in different sizes for puppies and small, medium, and large dogs, with varying concentrations of praziquantel, pyrantel base, and febantel.
• To ensure proper dosage, weigh the dog prior to treatment and administer the proper dosage as specified in the product label.
• Drontal Plus is generally given as a one-time treatment for intestinal parasites. If a periodic basis of administration is instructed by the veterinarian, follow their specific instructions.
• If a periodic basis of administration is instructed, speak with the veterinarian about what to do if a dose is missed.

Don’ts

• Do not give extra or double doses.

Drontal Plus is generally well-tolerated by dogs, and side effects are rare. However, some possible side effects may include:

• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Loss of Appetite
• Salivation
• Incoordination
• Blood or mucus in stools

If any unusual or bothersome side effects occur, consult with a veterinarian for guidance and appropriate management.

Drontal Plus should only be used by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Do not use Drontal Plus in pregnant or lactating females. Elevated levels of the combination of febantel and praziquantel in early pregnancy have demonstrated an increased incidence of abortion and fetal abnormalities.

Strict hygienic precautions should be taken when handling dogs or feces suspected of harboring Echinococcus multilocularis. Infected dogs treated for the first time with Drontal Plus and dogs treated at intervals greater than 28 days may shed eggs in the feces after treatment.

There are no known contraindications against the use of Drontal Plus in dogs.
