Lescol XL (Fluvastatin XL)

Do’s

• Take Lescol XL exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider , usually once daily.
• Swallow the tablets whole. Do not crush or chew them.
• Take Lescol XL with or without food.
• Tell your healthcare provider about all your medications, including prescriptions, non-prescription, and herbal products.
• If taking bile acid-binding resins (cholestyramine or colestipol) for cholesterol, take Lescol XL at least 1 hour before or 4 hours after them.
• Take Lescol XL consistently, at the same time each day.
• Continue taking Lescol XL even if you feel well. High cholesterol and triglycerides often don't cause symptoms.
• Maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine as recommended by your healthcare provider.

Don'ts

• Don't crush, chew, or break Lescol XL tablets.
• Don't take more or less Lescol XL than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't start or stop taking Lescol XL without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't expect immediate results. It may take up to 4 weeks to see the full benefit.

Common Side Effects:

• Abdominal pain or discomfort
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Indigestion
• Muscle or joint pain
• Nausea
• Rash
• Upper respiratory tract infection

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing
• Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever, unusual tiredness, or dark-colored urine
• Muscle weakness in the hips, shoulders, neck, or back
• Trouble lifting your arms, climbing, or standing
• Signs of a kidney problem, such as little or no urination, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath
• Signs of liver problems, including upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, tiredness, dark urine, or clay-colored stool

Talk to your healthcare provider about any allergies, especially to fluvastatin or any inactive ingredients.

Disclose medical conditions to your healthcare provider including:

• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Alcohol use (heavy drinking)

Inform your healthcare provider of all medications you take (prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal) before surgery.

Limit alcohol intake as daily use can increase the risk of liver problems, especially with Lescol XL.

Older adults may experience more side effects, particularly muscle problems.

Lescol XL should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. It may harm your unborn baby. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Lescol XL is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers due to the potential risk to the infant. Consult your healthcare provider for alternative breastfeeding guidance.
