Sandimmune Oral Solution (Cyclosporine)

Do’s

• The dosage of Sandimmune Oral Solution is determined based on factors such as your weight, medical condition, lab tests, and response to treatment. Your healthcare provider will prescribe the appropriate dosage for you.
• Sandimmune Oral Solution is usually taken once daily. However, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different dosing schedule based on your individual needs.
• You may take Sandimmune Oral Solution with or without food, but choose one way and take the medication the same way with every dose.
• Use the medicine syringe provided with the medication to carefully measure the dose. 
• To improve the taste, mix the measured dose of Sandimmune Oral Solution with a glass of milk, chocolate milk, or orange juice at room temperature. Use the same liquid consistently and use a glass cup rather than a plastic cup. Drink the entire mixture right away.
• To ensure you have taken all of the medication, rinse the glass used for mixing with more liquid, then mix and drink. 
• After use, dry the outside of the syringe. If cleaning is necessary, ensure that the syringe is completely dry before using it again.
• Use Sandimmune Oral Solution regularly and at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it. 

Don’ts

• Do not use a household spoon, as it may not provide the correct dose.
• Do not prepare a supply in advance.
• Do not rinse the syringe with water unless instructed otherwise. 
• Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using Sandimmune Oral Solution, unless your healthcare provider says it is safe to do so. Grapefruit can increase the chance of side effects with this medication.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort
• High blood pressure
• Kidney problems
• Tremor
• Increased hair growth on the body and face
• Gum overgrowth
• Headache
• Increased susceptibility to infections

Not everyone will experience these side effects, and some side effects may be more common or severe in certain individuals. If you are taking Sandimmune Oral Solution and experience any concerning side effects, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

Sandimmune Oral Solution may interact with other medications you are taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications, supplements, and herbal products you are currently using. They can check for potential interactions and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

Sandimmune Oral Solution may be prescribed for children as young as 6 months for selected conditions. However, precautions do apply. Patients over 65 years old may have a stronger reaction and may require a smaller dose.

Sandimmune Oral Solution should be stored below 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). It should not be kept in the refrigerator or frozen. It is recommended to keep the medicine in its original packaging and to throw away any unused medicine after two months of opening the bottle or after the expiration date.

Sandimmune Oral Solution contains alcohol, and this should be taken into account when given to patients who are sensitive to alcohol or have a history of alcohol abuse.

While using Sandimmune Oral Solution, frequent blood or urine tests may be necessary to ensure that the medication is not causing any harmful effects. This monitoring is important to assess the medication's effectiveness and to detect any potential side effects.
