Roszet (Ezetimibe/rosuvastatin)

Roszet includes two cholesterol-lowering medications, rosuvastatin and ezetimibe. Roszet works as follows: 

1. In individuals with high blood cholesterol levels, it is used with diet to reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), or bad cholesterol. 
2. In people with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), either alone or in combination with other LDL-lowering medications, to reduce LDL-C. 

 It works by blocking the absorption of cholesterol from the diet and inhibiting cholesterol production in the liver.  

• Take Roszet precisely as directed by your healthcare provider. 
• Take Roszet once daily, with or without food. It may be simpler to remember to take your dose at the same time every day, such as with breakfast, dinner, or before bed. 
• Tablets should be taken whole. Tablets should not be crushed, dissolved, or chewed. 
• Continue taking Roszet unless your doctor tells you to stop. If you discontinue medication, your cholesterol levels may rise again. 
• Missed doses should not be taken again. You should take your next dose at your regular time. Take no more than two doses of Roszet within 12 hours of each other. 
• Consult your doctor on regularly to monitor your cholesterol levels and look for negative effects. Before and throughout treatment, your healthcare professional may perform blood tests to evaluate your liver. 

Among the most common side effects are: 

• headache 
• weakness 
• diarrhea 
• dizziness 
• pain (back, hands, legs)  
• nausea 
• constipation 
• joint discomfort 
• stomach ache 
• common cold and influenza 
• sore throat and runny nose 
• tiredness 

Roszet can have major side effects, such as: 

1. Allergic reactions include anaphylaxis. Inform your doctor right once if you experience any of the following symptoms: 

• Swelling of the cheeks, lips, tongue, and/or throat that makes swallowing or breathing difficult 
• experiencing dizziness or fainting 
• hives or a rash 
• Itching

2. Pain, soreness, and weakening of the muscles (myopathy). Muscle disorders, including muscle breakdown, can be serious in some people, but they seldom result in kidney impairment, which can lead to death. If you combine Roszet with some other medications, you are more likely to get muscle difficulties. Inform your doctor right away if you: 

• experience unexplained muscle discomfort, soreness, or weakness, especially if you have a fever or are exhausted more than usual while taking Roszet. 
• have muscle difficulties that persist long after your doctor has advised you to stop taking Roszet. Your doctor may order more tests to determine the source of your muscular pain.

3. Problems with the liver. If you have signs of liver problems while taking Roszet, your healthcare professional may perform blood tests to examine your liver before you begin treatment. If you experience any of the following liver-related symptoms, contact your doctor right away: 

• fatigued or feeble 
• upper abdominal discomfort 
• an appearance of yellowing on the skin or in the eyes 
• appetite loss 
• dark urine 

4. Muscle problems are more likely to occur if you: 

• are using any other medications in addition to Roszet 
• are at least 65 years old 
• are of Asian ancestry 
• are having uncontrolled thyroid problems (hypothyroidism) 
• have renal issues 
• are receiving increased doses of Roszet.

If you also take cholestyramine, colesevelam, or colestipol, take ezetimibe and rosuvastatin 2 hours before or 4 hours after the other medication.  Inform your doctor about all of your other medications. 

When used with ezetimibe and rosuvastatin, the following medications can raise the risk of significant muscular problems: 

• colchicine, cyclosporine 
• antifungal medication such as fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole 
• a blood thinner such as warfarin 
• cancer medicines such as darolutamide, regorafenib 
• fenofibrate, fenofibric acid, gemfibrozil, niacin, nicotinic acid 
• hepatitis C medication that contains dasabuvir, elbasvir, glecaprevir, grazoprevir, ledipasvir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, pibrentasvir, sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, or voxilaprevir 
• HIV/AIDS medication such as atazanavir, fosamprenavir, lopinavir, ritonavir, simeprevir, tipranavir

Roszet (Ezetimibe/rosuvastatin) is not advised during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while taking Roszet (Ezetimibe/rosuvastatin), discontinue use and notify your doctor. Consult your doctor if you intend to become pregnant.
