Orajel is used to block nerve signals in your body (causing numbness). This medication reduces aches and discomforts associated with sore throats, sunburns, teething pain, vaginal or rectal irritation, ingrown toenails, hemorrhoids, or other minor pains and irritations. Orajel can also be used on the inside surfaces or the mouth, nose, throat, vagina, or rectum to decrease the pain when inserting a medical tool into these areas. Store at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not allow Orajel to freeze. Take Orajel exactly as prescribed to you by your doctor, or use the instructions provided on the label. If you apply to much of this medication your body may absorb too much. Also if you apply this medication on large areas of skin, or if you apply heat, bandages, plastic wrap, etc. to the treated area your body may over-absorb this medication. Cut, scraped, or irritated skin may absorb more medication than regular healthy skin. Use the smallest amount of Orajel needed to numb the skin. Use this medication 4 times a day when you have a skin condition being treated. If you use the spray form, hold the bottle between 6 and 12 inches away from the irritated skin. Do not use the spray directly on your face, instead spray your hands and then apply the medication indirectly to your face. When treating hemorrhoids, first clean the area with soap and water and then apply Orajel. Do not use more than 6 times per day for hemorrhoid treatment. If you have further questions or concerns, please speak to your health care provider. Do not use this medication on deep cuts or puncture wounds, raw or blistering skin, or skin with a severe burn. If you are treating a sore throat and your pain does not improve within 48 hours, contact a doctor, especially if you are experiencing other symptoms. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine. If you have a blood cell disorder called methemoglobinemia do not use Orajel.Inform your doctor prior to using this medication if you have methemoglobinemia, (If you do you will be unable to use this medication.) an inherited enzyme deficiency, a breathing disorder, a heart disorder, or if you smoke. An overdose of this medication may cause fatal side effects. Overdose symptoms include irregular heartbeats, seizures, slow breathing, or respiratory failure.
