Minitran Patch (Nitroglycerin)

Do’s

Before using Minitran Patch, read the patient information leaflet provided by your pharmacist.

Remove the patch from its pouch and peel off the protective clear liner as directed.

Usually, the patch is worn on the upper arm or chest. However, it can be applied anywhere on the body below the neck and above the knees or elbows. Ensure the chosen area is clean, dry, and free of hair. 

Apply the patch firmly to the chosen area, pressing it in place with the palm of your hand.

After application, wash your hands thoroughly.

Typically, the patch is worn for 12 to 14 hours a day. However, the specific duration may vary based on your healthcare provider's instructions.

To reduce skin irritation, apply each new patch to a different area of the skin. After removing the old patch, fold it in half with the sticky sides together and discard it out of reach of children and pets.

Use the patch regularly at the same time each day to get the maximum benefit from the medication. This will also help you remember to apply it consistently.

Inform your healthcare provider if the medication stops working well or if you experience worsening chest pain or more frequent episodes. In such cases, your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosage or explore alternative treatment options.

Don’ts

Do not apply the patch to areas with cuts or irritation.

Avoid touching the adhesive side of the patch.

Do not suddenly stop using Minitran Patch without consulting your healthcare provider. Abruptly discontinuing the medication may worsen certain conditions. If you need to stop or change the medication, your healthcare provider will provide guidance on gradually decreasing the dose.

Common Side Effects:

Headaches

Reddening and itchiness of the skin after removing the patch

Dizziness

Light-headedness

Low blood pressure

Hot flushes

Nausea

Vomiting

Less Common Side Effects:

Allergic reactions

Severe redness, swelling, or blisters under the patch

Chest pains that are not relieved by taking your usual medicine for treating an angina attack

Severe headache

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while using Minitran Patch, seek immediate medical assistance.

Do not use Minitran Patch if you are allergic to nitroglycerin, any of its components, or if you have had an allergic reaction to adhesive bandages or transdermal patches in the past. Inform your healthcare provider about any known allergies or adverse reactions you may have experienced.

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Certain medications, such as erectile dysfunction medicines (e.g., Viagra, Cialis), and health conditions may interact with Minitran Patch. Discuss your medical history and current medications with your healthcare provider.

Minitran Patch can cause low blood pressure (hypotension), which may lead to dizziness or fainting. Use caution when changing positions (e.g., standing up quickly) to avoid sudden drops in blood pressure. If you experience lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting, seek medical attention.

Minitran Patch is applied to the skin, and skin irritation may occur at the application site. If you experience severe redness, swelling, or blisters under the patch, consult your healthcare provider.

Store Minitran Patch at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep the patches out of the reach of children and pets.
