Colestid Granules

Colestid Granules are used to lower high cholesterol levels in the blood in combination with diet.

Store Colestid Granules granules at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant while using Colestid Granules. Talk to your doctor about breastfeeding while taking Colestid Granules. Colestid Granules interfere with the absorption of vitamins A, D, and K and can affect the mother and the nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you have an underactive thyroid gland, diabetes, nephrontic syndrome (a kidney disease), dysproteinemia (a blood disease), obstructive liver disease, or alcoholism before taking Colestid Granules. Talk to your doctor about being on a diet plan that stresses low-cholesterol foods and weight loss. Tell your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications that you use before taking Colestid Granules. Some medicines interact.

Accidentally inhaling Colestid Granules granules can cause serious effects. To prevent this, never take them in their dry form. Instead, always mix Colestid Granules granules with water or other liquids before you take them. Have your cholesterol and triglyceride levels checked regularly while you are taking Colestid Granules. Colestid Granules can cause constipation. You may need to adjust your fluid and fiber intake to prevent constipation. A stool softener may also be needed occasionally. People with coronary artery disease must be especially careful to avoid constipation.

Patient Family Information  : Take Colestid Granules exactly as instructed by your doctor. Colestid Granules granules should be mixed with liquids such as flavored drinks, milk, orange juice, water, or tomato juice. Taking Colestid Granules with carbonated beverages can cause stomach or intestinal discomfort. Colestid Granules can also be mixed with milk used on breakfast cereals, pulpy fruit (crushed peaches, pears, or pineapple) fruit cocktails, and soups with a high liquid content (such as chicken noodle). To take Colestid Granules with drinks measure at least 3 ounces of liquid in a glass, add the prescribed dose of Colestid Granules and stir until completely mixed (granules will not dissolve). After drinking the mixture, add more liquid to the glass, swirl it around, and drink to make sure you drink all of the medicine in the glass.

Do not take Colestid Granules if you are allergic to any ingredient in Colestid Granules.

Sever Side Effects : Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction to Colestid Granules such as: rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.

Less serious side effects include constipation and worsening of hemorrhoids.
