Trandate (Labetalol - Generic Discontinued)

Do’s

Take Trandate by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, usually twice a day. It can be taken with or without food, but it is important to choose one way and take it the same way with every dose.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your healthcare provider may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose to reduce the risk of side effects. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Taking it at the same time each day can help you remember to take it.

For the treatment of high blood pressure, it may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this drug. Keep taking this medication even if you feel well, as most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.

Your healthcare provider may occasionally change your dose, and your blood pressure will need to be checked often.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. However, if it is within 8 hours of your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. 

Don’ts

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Common Side Effects:

Dizziness

Lightheadedness

Tiredness

Nausea

Stomach upset

Drowsiness

Serious Side Effects:

Slow heartbeat

Severe dizziness

Fainting

Bluish fingers/toes

Trouble breathing 

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these serious side effects while taking Trandate.

Trandate may interact with other medications, potentially changing how they work or increasing the risk of serious side effects. Inform your healthcare provider about all the products you use, including prescription/nonprescription drugs, and herbal products, and follow your healthcare provider's approval when starting, stopping, or changing the dosage of any medicines.

This medication may interfere with certain medical/lab tests, potentially causing false results. Ensure that lab personnel and all your healthcare providers are aware that you are using this drug.

If you have diabetes, checking your blood sugar regularly while using Trandate is necessary. 

Discuss any concerns or questions about the warnings and precautions of Trandate with your healthcare provider to ensure safe and effective use of the medication.
