Prempro Low Dose (Medroxyprogesterone/Estrogen)

Do’s

• If available, read the patient information leaflet provided by your pharmacist before starting to use this medication. It contains important information about the medication, its potential side effects, and precautions.
• Take Prempro Low Dose by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual recommended dosage is one tablet taken orally once daily.
• You may take this medication with food or right after a meal to prevent stomach upset. However, follow the specific instructions given by your healthcare provider.
• The dosage of Prempro Low Dose is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Take this medication at the prescribed dose to achieve the desired benefits.
• Take Prempro Low Dose regularly to get the maximum benefit from it. Take it at the same time each day to help you remember. 
• If your condition does not improve or if it worsens while taking Prempro Low Dose, inform your healthcare provider. 

Don’ts

• Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often or for a longer time than directed by your healthcare provider. 

• Unusual vaginal bleeding
• Increased risk of certain cancers such as uterine, breast, or ovarian cancer
• Changes in breast milk production
• Nausea

The risk for serious side effects may depend on the dose of estrogen and the length of time it is used. Prempro Low Dose should be used at the lowest effective dose and for the shortest amount of time as determined by your healthcare provider.

Discuss the use of Prempro Low Dose with your healthcare provider regularly, such as every 3 to 6 months, to assess if you still need to use it. If you will be using this medication long-term, regular complete physical exams may be necessary as directed by your healthcare provider.

Unopposed estrogen therapy in women with a uterus may increase the risk of endometrial hyperplasia, which is a possible precursor of endometrial cancer. The risk of endometrial cancer is higher in unopposed estrogen users compared to non-users. The risk may depend on the duration of treatment and estrogen dose.

Estrogen plus progestin therapy, including Prempro Low Dose, may increase the risk of cardiovascular disorders such as heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and high blood pressure. Discuss your medical history and any existing cardiovascular conditions with your healthcare provider before starting Prempro Low Dose.

Cases of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, have been reported in some individuals taking Prempro Low Dose. Symptoms may include hives, swelling, respiratory or gastrointestinal tract involvement. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience such symptoms.
