Abilify Oral Solution (Aripiprazole)

Do’s:

• Take Abilify oral solution exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once daily with or without food. Your healthcare provider will determine the dosage based on your individual needs and other medications you take.
• Tell your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you use to avoid potential interactions.
• Your healthcare provider may recommend starting with a low dose and gradually increasing it to minimize side effects.
• If using the liquid form, use the provided measuring device/cup for accurate dosing, not a household spoon.
• Take Abilify oral solution regularly, ideally at the same time each day, to maintain consistent levels in your body and maximize its effectiveness.
• Keep taking Abilify oral solution even if you feel well. Don't stop abruptly without consulting your healthcare provider, as your condition may worsen.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after using Abilify oral solution.

Don'ts:

• Don't increase your dose or use Abilify oral solution more often than prescribed. A higher dose won't improve your condition faster and can increase side effects.
• Don't expect immediate effects: It may take several weeks to experience the full benefits of Abilify oral solution. Be patient and continue taking it as directed.
• Don't use Abilify oral solution past its expiration date.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea and vomiting
• Constipation
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Restlessness
• Anxiety
• Insomnia
• Fatigue
• Weight gain
• Increased or decreased appetite
• Drooling (in children)

Serious Side Effects:

• Suicidal thoughts
• Compulsive behaviors
• Blurred vision
• Neuroleptic malignant syndrome
• Tardive dyskinesia
• Blood pressure changes
• Low blood cell counts
• Increased risk of stroke and death in older adults with dementia-related psychosis
• Seizures

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to aripiprazole or any ingredients in Abilify Oral Solution, including propylene glycol. Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Abilify Oral Solution, especially those mentioned previously. Abilify Oral Solution may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness or clear vision until effects subside. Limit alcohol and marijuana use while taking Abilify Oral Solution. Abilify Oral Solution may decrease sweating, increasing the risk of heatstroke. Avoid strenuous activity or hot environments, and stay hydrated in hot weather. Seek medical attention if you experience fever, confusion, headache, or dizziness that won't go away. If you have diabetes, consult your healthcare provider as Abilify Oral Solution may contain sugar. Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, and movement problems (tardive dyskinesia). Abilify Oral Solution should only be used during pregnancy when clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. Newborns exposed to Abilify Oral Solution in late pregnancy may experience withdrawal symptoms.

Abilify Oral Solution passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding. Do not stop taking Abilify Oral Solution unless directed by your healthcare provider, even if you feel better. Discuss the risks and benefits of using Abilify Oral Solution during pregnancy or breastfeeding with your healthcare provider.
