Do’s

Follow your healthcare provider's Instructions: Take Imitrex DF exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. This includes dosage and frequency.

Swallow Whole: Swallow the tablet whole with water. Don't crush, chew, or split the tablets.

Second Dose (if necessary): If your headache returns after a partial response or doesn't improve at all, you may take a second dose after 2 hours, but only with your healthcare provider's okay.

Stay Within Limits: Don't take more than 200mg of Imitrex DF within a 24-hour period.

Don'ts

Don't self-medicate: Don't take Imitrex DF unless prescribed by a healthcare provider.

Don't use it for Prevention: Imitrex DF is for treating migraines, not preventing them.

Don't take with Certain Medications: Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, before using Imitrex DF. Some medications can interact with Imitrex DF.

Don't ignore Warnings: If you have certain medical conditions or risk factors, Imitrex DF might not be suitable for you. Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider before taking it.

Don't use if Pregnant or Breastfeeding: Discuss the risks and benefits of Imitrex DF with your healthcare provider if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Common side effects may include:

Dizziness

Weakness

Drowsiness

Nausea

Injection site reactions (with the injection form)

Unpleasant taste in the mouth (with the nasal spray form)

Irritation in the nose or throat (with the nasal spray form)

Serious side effects may include:

Allergic reactions

Chest symptoms or chest pain

Heart problems, including heart attack

Serotonin syndrome (rare but serious, especially when used with certain antidepressant medications)

Reduced blood flow to the stomach or intestines, leading to weight loss (rare)

Talk to your healthcare provider before using Imitrex DF if you have any allergies or a history of:

Blood circulation problems

Imitrex DF can increase your risk of heart problems, especially if you have:

High blood pressure

High cholesterol

Diabetes

Family history of heart disease

Certain lifestyle factors (smoking, overweight, postmenopausal women, men over 40)

Imitrex DF may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or activities requiring alertness until you know how it affects you.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take before surgery or dental procedures.

Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects, especially high blood pressure and heart problems.

Use Imitrex DF during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Imitrex DF passes into breast milk in small amounts. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
