Do’s

The dosage of Advil Liqui-Gel Extra Strength is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Take this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time to reduce the risk of stomach bleeding and other side effects.

For ongoing conditions such as arthritis, continue taking this medication as directed by your healthcare provider.

When Advil Liqui-Gel Extra Strength is used by children, the dose is based on the child's weight. Read the package directions to find the proper dose for your child's weight. Consulting a healthcare provider for assistance in choosing a nonprescription product is recommended.

Advil Liqui-Gel Extra Strength should be taken by mouth, usually every 4 to 6 hours with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters) unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider. If stomach upset occurs, it can be taken with food, milk, or an antacid.

For certain conditions such as arthritis, it may take up to two weeks of taking this drug regularly until the full benefit is achieved.

If you are taking this drug "as needed," use it as the first signs of pain occur for the best results. Waiting until the pain has worsened may affect the medication's effectiveness.

If your condition lasts or worsens, or if you suspect a serious medical problem, seek medical help promptly.

If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped, and the regular dosing schedule should be continued.

Don’ts

Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication. 

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

If you are having trouble getting pregnant or are pregnant,  consult with a healthcare provider before using Advil Liqui-Gel Extra Strength. Avoid taking this medicine if you are in the third trimester of pregnancy, and discuss with your healthcare provider when to avoid taking it during pregnancy.

Advil Liqui-Gel Extra Strength contains an NSAID, which may cause severe stomach bleeding if the recommended dosage is exceeded. The risk of stomach bleeding is higher for individuals aged 60 or older, those with a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding problems, and those taking certain medications.
