Abilify Discmelt (Aripiprazole)

Do’s:

• Take Abilify Discmelt exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once daily with or without food. Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate dosage based on your individual needs and other medications you take.
• Keep the tablet in the blister pack until you're ready to take it. Wash and dry your hands before opening the blister pack.
• Peel back the foil carefully to remove a single tablet. Don't push through the foil. The tablet is fragile and shouldn't be cut, split, or broken.
• Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve completely before swallowing with saliva. Water is not necessary.
• Take Abilify Discmelt regularly, ideally at the same time each day, to maintain consistent levels in your body and maximize its effectiveness.
• Keep taking Abilify Discmelt even if you feel well. Don't stop abruptly without consulting your healthcare provider, as your condition may worsen.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after using Abilify Discmelt.

Don'ts:

• Don't increase your dose or use Abilify Discmelt more often than prescribed. This won't improve your condition faster and can increase side effects.
• Don't expect immediate effects: It may take several weeks to experience the full benefits of Abilify Discmelt. Be patient and continue taking it as directed.
• Don't take expired medication. Don't use Abilify Discmelt past its expiration date.
• Don't combine with unknown substances. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you take to avoid potential interactions.

Common Side Effects:

• Blurred vision
• Increased sexual urges
• Unusual urges to gamble or other intense urges
• Akathisia (restlessness)
• Headache
• Injection site reactions
• Insomnia
• Increased thirst
• Increased urination
• Dry mouth
• Fruity breath odor
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Dizziness
• Restlessness
• Anxiety
• Insomnia
• Fatigue
• Weight gain
• Increased or decreased appetite
• Drooling or making more saliva than usual
• Stuffy nose
• Tremor
• Muscle stiffness

Serious Side Effects:

• Low blood cell counts: fever, chills, sore throat, weakness, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, purple or red spots under the skin
• High blood sugar: increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath odor
• Signs of a severe allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), dizziness, trouble breathing
• Difficulty swallowing, which may lead to aspiration and choking
• Tardive dyskinesia: uncontrolled movements in the face, tongue, or other body parts
• Increased risk of stroke and death in older adults with dementia-related psychosis
• Seizures
• Neuroleptic malignant syndrome
• Blood pressure changes
• Methemoglobinemia (a serious blood problem where red blood cells cannot bring enough oxygen to the body)

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Abilify discmelt,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to aripiprazole or any ingredients in Abilify Discmelt Tablets.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Abilify Discmelt, especially:

• Problems with blood flow in the brain (stroke, cerebrovascular disease)
• Diabetes (including family history)
• Heart problems (low blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart failure, irregular heartbeat)
• Nervous system problems (dementia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), seizures)
• Obesity
• Low white blood cell count
• Swallowing problems
• Sleep apnea

Abilify Discmelt may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness or clear vision until effects subside. Limit alcohol and marijuana use while taking Abilify Discmelt. Abilify Discmelt may decrease sweating, increasing the risk of heatstroke. Avoid strenuous activity or hot environments, and stay hydrated in hot weather. Seek medical attention if you experience fever, confusion, headache, or dizziness that won't go away. If you have PKU, consult your healthcare provider about using Abilify Discmelt due to aspartame content.

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Abilify Discmelt, before having surgery. Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, and movement problems (tardive dyskinesia). Abilify Discmelt should only be used during pregnancy when clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. Newborns exposed to Abilify Discmelt in late pregnancy may experience withdrawal symptoms. Abilify Discmelt passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding. Do not stop taking Abilify Discmelt unless directed by your healthcare provider, even if you feel better. Discuss the risks and benefits of using Abilify Discmelt during pregnancy or breastfeeding with your healthcare provider.
