Zaditen (Ketotifen Fumarate)

Do’s:

• Apply Zaditen Eye Drops exactly as directed by your healthcare provider, typically one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day (morning and night).
• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the eye drops.
• Tilt your head back and look upwards.
• Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch.
• Squeeze the dropper bottle gently and place one drop into the pouch created by your lower eyelid.
• Close your eye for a few seconds and gently press your finger at the inner corner of your eye (near the nose) for 1-2 minutes. This helps prevent the medication from draining out.
• If using Zaditen in both eyes, repeat these steps for your other eye.
• Wipe away any excess solution from your cheek with a clean tissue.
• If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes before using Zaditen Eye Drops.

Don'ts:

• Don't use Zaditen Eye Drops more often than prescribed or for longer than 4 weeks after opening the bottle. Discard any remaining contents after 4 weeks.
• Don't wear contact lenses while using Zaditen Eye Drops.
• Don't rub your eye after applying the drops.
• Don't use Zaditen Eye Drops if the solution is discolored or contains particles
• Don't let the tip of the dropper touch your eye or anything else to avoid contamination.

Common Side Effects:

• Irritation
• Agitation
• Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping)
• Nervousness
• Sedation
• Conjunctival inflammation
• Feeling hyperactive, irritable, or nervous
• Disturbed sleep
• Cystitis (a burning or pain when passing urine)
• Feeling dizzy or having a dry mouth
• Punctate corneal epithelial erosion

Serious Side Effects:

• Wheezing or difficulty breathing
• Tiny breaks in the skin covering the eye
• Runny or sticky discharge from the eye with itching of the eye and crusty eyelids
• Pain in the eye
• Bleeding under the surface of the eye
• Skin rash
• Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you have a fit
• Methemoglobinemia, a serious blood problem where red blood cells cannot bring enough oxygen to the body, which may occur immediately or within hours of using Zaditen
• Other serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing in case of overdose

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to ketotifen (the active ingredient) or any other ingredients in Zaditen Eye Drops. While not explicitly mentioned, it is advisable to consult your healthcare provider before using Zaditen Eye Drops if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Similar to pregnancy, consult your healthcare provider before using Zaditen Eye Drops if you are breastfeeding. Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions, especially eye problems, to your healthcare provider before using Zaditen Eye Drops.
