Divigel (Estradiol Gel)

Do’s

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start using Divigel and each time you get a refill. Learn how to apply the gel correctly. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.

Apply the medication to clean, dry skin on the upper thigh area as directed by your healthcare provider, typically once daily. Alternate between the right and left thighs with each application.

The dosage is determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

After applying the medication, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to minimize the risk of unintentionally spreading it to others. Allow the application site to dry completely before dressing, and cover the area with clothing to prevent others from coming into contact with the application site.

Wait at least 1 hour before allowing others to touch the skin where the medication was applied. If accidental contact occurs within this timeframe, the area of contact should be washed with soap and water as soon as possible.

To optimize the medication's effectiveness, wait at least 1 hour before showering or swimming to allow the drug to be absorbed through the skin.

Consistent daily use of the medication at the same time each day is essential to derive the maximum benefit from it

Divigel is flammable until dry. Allow the gel to dry before smoking or being near an open flame.

If there is no improvement in your condition or if it worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

Avoid applying the medication to broken, irritated skin, the breast, face, or in or around the vagina. Additionally, do not allow others to apply this medication to your body.

Do not increase the dose or use the medication more frequently than prescribed.

Avoid getting the medication in the eyes, and in case of eye contact, rinse them immediately with warm water and inform your healthcare provider of any eye irritation.

Common Side Effects:

Irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting

Breast tenderness

Vaginal yeast infection

Cold

Upper respiratory tract infection

Serious, but Less Common Side Effects:

Heart attack

Stroke

Blood clots

Dementia

Breast cancer

Cancer of the lining of the uterus (womb)

Using estrogen-alone increases the chance of getting cancer of the uterus (womb). Report any unusual vaginal bleeding while using Divigel, as it may be a warning sign of uterine cancer. Estrogens may also increase the chances of getting certain types of cancers, including breast cancer or uterus cancer.

Divigel may pose risks such as heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and dementia. Seek medical attention if any unusual symptoms or warning signs occur while using Divigel.

Store Divigel at room temperature away from heat and open flames. Keep all medications away from children and pets, and properly discard the product when expired or no longer needed.

Do not use Divigel if you are pregnant, and use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while using Divigel.
