Do’s

Wash your hands: This is crucial to prevent contamination of your eyes.

Inspect the medication: Discard if discolored, cloudy, or has particles.

Manage contact lenses: Remove them before use and wait 15 minutes to reinsert.

Apply the drops correctly: Tilt head back, create a pouch with your lower eyelid, aim and drop, close eye with gentle pressure near the nose.

Use with other medications: Apply eye drops 10 minutes before ointments and space applications of separate medications by 10 minutes.

Use consistently: Stick to your healthcare provider's prescribed schedule, even if you feel well.

Don'ts

Don't swallow or inject: This medication is for the eyes only.

Don't contaminate the dropper tip: Avoid touching it to your eye or any surface.

Don't rinse the dropper: Keep the dropper clean by replacing the cap after each use.

Don't operate machinery with blurry vision: Wait for your vision to clear before driving or using machines.

Don't stop using without consulting your healthcare provider: Stopping medication abruptly can be harmful.

Common side effects of Carteol HC may include:

Upset stomach

Dry mouth

Drowsiness

Serious side effects of Carteol HC may include:

Serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, which may require immediate medical attention

Serious cardiac events, such as bradycardia, congestive heart failure, and myocardial infarction

Hypotension (low blood pressure)

Bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the airways)

Breathlessness

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Carteol hcl, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Consult your healthcare provider before using Carteolol HCL if you have allergies to it, other beta-blockers, or any other ingredients.

Share your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have any of the following conditions: lung disease, heart problems, diabetes, thyroid issues, blood circulation problems, low blood flow to the brain, mental health conditions, nerve/muscle problems, or a history of severe allergic reactions.

If you experience an eye infection, injury, or surgery, consult your healthcare provider about using your current bottle of Carteolol HCL. You might need a new bottle.

Be aware that Carteolol HCL may cause temporary blurred vision after application. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until your vision returns to normal.

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Carteolol HCL) before any surgery or dental procedure.

Carteolol HCL may mask symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) except for dizziness and sweating. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly and consult your healthcare provider if you experience symptoms of high blood sugar.

Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly and consult your healthcare provider regarding adjustments to your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet. Carteolol HCL may make it harder to control blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. 

Carteolol HCL should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if Carteolol HCL passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
