Directions on how to use Xiidra

It is important to follow the directions on using Lifitegrast closely in order to get the best results.

To use Xiidra, shake the bottle well and then remove the cap. Tilt your head back and squeeze one drop into the corner of your eye closest to your nose. Close your eyes and press gently on the corner of your eye for about 30 seconds. Repeat this process in the other eye if you are prescribed two doses per day.

It is very important not to touch the dropper tip on any surface, as this can contaminate the medication. Also, avoid letting the tip of the dropper touch your eye, as this can also contaminate the medication. Be sure to discard any unused medication after 30 days.

Xiidra Ingredients

Xiidra contains an active ingredient, Lifitegrast. Lifitegrast is a novel integrin antagonist that binds to the alpha Vbeta3 integrin on the surface of inflammatory cells, which reduces inflammation.

Cautions while using Xiidra

Before using this eye drop, there are some precautions that should be taken into consideration.

Patients with certain medical conditions, such as liver disease or high blood pressure, should not take it without consulting their doctor.

Additionally, this should not be used by pregnant women or breastfeeding women.

Patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medication should also not use this eyedrop.

Xiidra and Hair Loss

A side effect of dry eye disease can cause hair loss. The cause of hair loss in people with dry eye disease is not fully understood, but it is thought that the lack of tears or poor-quality tears may contribute to hair loss. Lifitegrast may help improve tear production and quality and may help reduce hair loss in people with dry eye disease.

Xiidra vs Restasis

Xiidra and Restasis are both medications used to treat chronic dry eye. They both work in a similar way, by increasing the production of tears.

Xiidra is also approved for use in children aged 12 and over, while Restasis is not approved for children under 16yrs old. Additionally, Xiidra has been shown to be more effective than Restasis at treating chronic dry eye.

Is Xiidra for dry eyes?

Xiidra is a prescription medication that has been approved for the treatment of dry eyes. It works by lubricating and protecting the surface of the eye. It is a prescription-only medication, so you will need to see your ophthalmologist in order to get a prescription for this drug if you are experiencing dry eyes.

If you are experiencing worsened symptoms since starting this medication, talk to your doctor about whether there are other treatments that may work better for you.

How does Xiidra work?

Essentially, it blocks a protein on the surface of cells that can lead to the eyes not producing enough tears or producing tears that are not the right consistency.

How long does Xiidra take to work?

In as little as two weeks, Lifitegrast can relieve symptoms of eye dryness for some patients. It may take some patients to see improvements at six weeks or 12 weeks.

What can I use instead of Xiidra?

There are alternatives to Xiidra, but it would be best to talk to your doctor before using other eyedrops for your symptoms.
