Do's

Follow your healthcare provider's instructions precisely regarding dosage, frequency, and duration of taking Xifaxan DT.

Take Xifaxan DT with food to minimize stomach upset.

Swallow the tablets whole. Avoid crushing, chewing, or breaking them.

Space your doses evenly throughout the day.

Complete the entire course of medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider, even if your symptoms improve.

Consult your healthcare provider if you miss a dose. They'll advise you on whether to take the missed dose or adjust your schedule for subsequent doses.

Don'ts

Don't exceed the prescribed dosage of Xifaxan DT.

Don't take Xifaxan DT for longer than your healthcare provider recommends.

Don't take Xifaxan DT if you're allergic to it, rifamycin, or any other antibiotics.

Avoid taking Xifaxan DT with certain medications that may interact with it. Discuss all medications you take (prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, herbal supplements) with your healthcare provider to avoid potential complications.

Common Side Effects:

Nausea

Dizziness

Fatigue

Headache

Muscle spasms

Swelling

Diarrhea (watery or bloody)

Stomach pain and bloating

Trouble breathing while lying down

Serious Side Effects:

Allergic reaction: Signs of an allergic reaction may include hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

Severe stomach pain

Diarrhea that is watery or bloody (even if it occurs months after your last dose)

Fluid build-up around the stomach: This may cause rapid weight gain, stomach pain and bloating, and trouble breathing while lying down

Tell your healthcare provider if you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to Xifaxan DT, rifamycin, or any other antibiotics.

Tell your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have, including liver disease, kidney disease, or a history of antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Xifaxan DT may interact with certain other medications.

Discuss with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Xifaxan DT is in pregnancy category C, meaning it may be harmful to an unborn baby.

Talk to your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if Xifaxan DT passes into breast milk.
