Vesicare (Solifenacin Succinate)

Do’s

Before starting or refilling a prescription for VESIcare, read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.

Take VESIcare by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once a day. It should be taken with a full glass of liquid, and the tablet should be swallowed whole to avoid the bitter taste of the powder in the tablet.

For the liquid form of VESIcare, shake the bottle well before taking each dose. Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. After taking the dose, drink a glass of water or milk.

Using VESIcare regularly is essential to get the most benefit from it. Taking it at the same time each day can help in remembering to take doses regularly.

The dosage is based on the individual's medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications they may be taking. For children, the dose is also based on their weight.

Don’ts

Avoid using a household spoon when measuring the liquid form of VESIcare.

Avoid taking the liquid form of VESIcare with food or other drinks, as this may cause a bitter taste.

Do not increase the dose or use the drug more often or for longer than prescribed, as it will not improve the condition any faster and may increase the risk of side effects.

What are the ingredients in VESIcare?

Active ingredient: solifenacin succinate

Inactive ingredients: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, hypromellose 2910, magnesium stearate, talc, polyethylene glycol 8000 and titanium dioxide with yellow ferric oxide (5 mg VESIcare tablet) or red ferric oxide (10 mg VESICARE tablet)

Common Side Effects:

Dry mouth

Constipation

Stomach pain

Upset stomach

Vomiting

Heartburn

Dry eyes

Blurred vision

Dry skin

Less Common Side Effects:

Bladder pain

Bloody or cloudy urine

Chills

Decrease in the frequency of urination

Decrease in urine volume

Difficult, burning, or painful urination

Dizziness

Fever

Frequent urge to urinate

Headache

Lower back or side pain

Serious Side Effects:

Severe stomach/abdominal pain

Constipation for 3 or more days

Difficulty urinating

Signs of kidney infection (such as burning/painful/frequent urination, fever, pink/bloody urine)

Mental/mood changes (such as confusion, hallucinations)

Tell your healthcare provider right away if you experience any serious side effects. Additionally, if you have any concerns about the side effects of VESIcare, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

VESIcare should not be used if you have allergy to solifenacin, untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, if there is a blockage in the digestive tract (stomach or intestines), or if there is difficulty urinating.

Before starting VESIcare, a healthcare provider will assess whether there are other causes for the need to pass urine frequently, such as heart failure or kidney disease. If a urinary tract infection is present, an antibiotic may be prescribed.

VESIcare may affect the way other medicines work, and other medicines may affect how VESIcare works. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines being taken, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements

VESIcare, like other antimuscarinic agents, may cause central nervous system effects or blurred vision. Caution should be exercised in decisions to engage in potentially dangerous activities until the drug's effect on the patient has been determined.

VESIcare may cause a further decrease in gastrointestinal motility, leading to constipation and dry mouth. Patients should contact their healthcare providers if they experience severe abdominal pain or become constipated for 3 or more days.

How should I store VESIcare?

Store VESIcare at 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C). Keep the bottle closed. Safely throw away medicine that is out of date or that you no longer need.
