March 20, 2008 | by DoctorSolve

Navane is an antipsychotic medicine, used for the treatment of schizophrenia with symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, unorganized thoughts, and hostility. It works by lowering levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain.

Important information about Navane

Navane may cause tardive dyskinesia, a condition which is marked by involuntary muscle spasms and twitches in the face and body. It can be permanent and appears mostly among the elderly, especially women. It is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Use caution while driving or operating machinery as this medication may cause drowsiness. Avoid alcohol while taking Navane.
Tell your doctor if:

  • you are allergic to Navane or any other drugs;
  • you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine;
  • you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding;
  • you are having surgery, including dental surgery;
  • you are suffering from dementia.

Do not use Navane if you have or have had a brain tumor, breast cancer, depression; seizures; shock therapy; asthma; emphysema; chronic bronchitis; problems with your urinary system or prostate; glaucoma; history of alcohol abuse; thyroid problems; bad reaction to insulin; angina; irregular heartbeat; problems with your blood pressure; blood disorders; blood vessel, heart, kidney, liver, or lung disease.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight on your skin as it may become more sensitive to it during treatment.
