Nexium Granules for Oral Suspension (Esomeprazole)

Do’s

The dosage of Nexium granules for oral suspension is based on the individual's medical condition and response to treatment. In children, the dosage may also be based on weight.

Nexium granules for oral suspension should be taken by mouth as directed by a healthcare provider, usually once daily, at least 1 hour before a meal. 

This medication can also be given through a tube into the stomach, such as a nasogastric or gastric tube.

The granules should be mixed with water before administration. The amount of water used depends on the strength of the medication.

Empty the contents of a packet into a container with the recommended amount of water. Stir the mixture well and leave it for 2 to 3 minutes to thicken. Stir again and drink all of the mixture within 30 minutes. If any medication remains in the container, add more water, stir, and drink right away to ensure the entire dose is taken.

If Nexium granules for oral suspension are being administered through a nasogastric or gastric tube, ask a healthcare provider for detailed instructions on how to properly mix and give the medication. 

If needed, antacids may be taken along with Nexium granules for oral suspension. However, if sucralfate is also being taken, it should be taken at least 30 minutes before Nexium.

Follow the instructions provided by the healthcare provider and take Nexium granules for oral suspension regularly for the prescribed length of treatment, even if feeling better.

Nexium granules for oral suspension should be used with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to substituted benzimidazoles or any component of the formulation. Hypersensitivity reactions may include anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, bronchospasm, acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, and urticaria.

Nexium granules for oral suspension should be used with caution in patients with a history of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. This is because the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Nexium may increase the risk of developing this condition.

If you have or are at increased risk for developing osteoporosis (weakening of the bones), your healthcare provider may recommend adding foods containing calcium and vitamin D while on Nexium granules for oral suspension.

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines to avoid any potential drug interactions.
