Nasonex Nasal Spray (Mometasone Furoate)

Please read the instructions before using Nasonex 50 mcg nasal spray.

Follow your doctor's prescription exactly. Use Nasonex nasal spray only in your nose. Avoid spraying it into your mouth or eyes.

An adult should supervise children using this medication. For the best results, use Nasonex nasal spray daily without missing a dose. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but do not exceed the prescribed daily amount.

Do not use Nasonex nasal spray more often than directed. If you have questions about your dosage, consult your doctor. See your healthcare provider regularly to monitor your symptoms and check for side effects.

Common side effects of Nasonex nasal spray:

• Burning
• Stinging
• Irritation
• Redness
• Dryness
• Itching
• Inflammation
• Softening and breakdown of skin
• Blisters
• Serous drainage
• Crusting
• Mild nosebleeds (epistaxis) observed more frequently in patients with allergic rhinitis
• Localized infections of the nose and pharynx with Candida albicans
• Nasal septum perforation in some instances following long-term use
• Impaired wound healing

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Signs of allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Severe bleeding or increased drainage from the nose
• Nose pain or discomfort, headache
• White patches or sores in the nose that won't heal
• Wheezing, trouble breathing
• Vision problems
• Irritation or a choking feeling in the back of the throat
• Ear pain or full feeling, trouble hearing, drainage from the ear

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Nasonex nasal spray,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Before you take Nasonex (mometasone furoate), tell your healthcare provider if you:

• have had recent nasal sores, surgery, or injury
• have vision problems like cataracts, glaucoma, or blurred vision
• have tuberculosis or untreated infections, including fungal, bacterial, viral, or herpes eye infections
• have been exposed to chickenpox or measles
• feel unwell or have unexplained symptoms
• are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
• are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed

Tell your doctor about all medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Especially inform your doctor if you take:

• HIV medications (ritonavir, atazanavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir)
• cobicistat-containing products
• antifungal medications (ketoconazole, itraconazole)
• antibiotics (clarithromycin, telithromycin)
• antidepressants (nefazodone)

Taking these medications with Nasonex may increase side effects. Your doctor may need to monitor you closely. Keep a list of your medications and share it with your doctor and pharmacist when starting new treatments.

How should I store Nasonex Nasal Spray?

• Store Nasonex at room temperature between 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C).
• Protect from light.
• Avoid prolonged exposure of NASONEX container to direct light.
• Shake well before each use.
• Keep NASONEX and all medicines out of the reach of children.
