Mobic (meloxicam) is indicated for the following conditions:
- Osteoarthritis (OA): Mobic is indicated for relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): Mobic is indicated for relief of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
- Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA): Mobic is indicated for relief of the signs and symptoms of pauciarticular or polyarticular course Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis in patients who weigh 60 kg.
- Before starting to take Mobic, read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification.
- Mobic may come in different forms such as tablet, capsule, liquid, or disintegrating tablet
- Take Mobic by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily.
- If taking the tablet or capsule form, drink a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters) with it unless your doctor advises otherwise.
- If taking the liquid form, shake the bottle gently before each dose. Use a special measuring device/spoon to carefully measure the dose.
- If taking the disintegrating tablet, peel back the foil using dry hands to carefully remove the tablet. Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve. After the tablet has melted, it can be swallowed with or without liquid.
- If stomach upset occurs while taking Mobic, it can be taken with food, milk, or an antacid.
- The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. The lowest effective dosage should always be used, and only for the prescribed length of time.
- It may take up to two weeks before you get the full benefit of this drug. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day.
- Tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens.
Don’ts
- Do not switch between different forms of Mobic without consulting your healthcare provider.
- Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking the tablet or capsule form of Mobic.
- Do not use a household spoon to measure the liquid form of Mobic as it may not provide the correct dose.
- Do not remove the disintegrating tablet from the packaging until you are ready to take it.
- Do not take more of this medication than prescribed because higher doses increase the chance of stomach ulcers/bleeding.

Mobic is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam or any components of the drug product. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. Additionally, it is contraindicated in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Patients should be informed of the warning signs and symptoms of hepatotoxicity, such as nausea, fatigue, lethargy, diarrhea, pruritus, jaundice, right upper quadrant tenderness, and "flulike" symptoms. If these occur, patients should stop Mobic and seek immediate medical therapy.
Patients should be advised to be alert for the symptoms of congestive heart failure, including shortness of breath, unexplained weight gain, or edema, and to contact their healthcare provider if such symptoms occur.
Patients should be informed of the signs of an anaphylactic reaction, such as difficulty breathing and swelling of the face or throat, and instructed to seek immediate emergency help if these occur.
Patients should be advised to stop Mobic immediately if they develop any type of rash and to contact their healthcare provider as soon as possible.
If treatment with Mobic is needed for a pregnant woman between about 20 to 30 weeks gestation, she may need to be monitored for oligohydramnios if treatment continues for longer than 48 hours.
Carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of Mobic and other treatment options before deciding to use Mobic. The lowest effective dosage should be used for the shortest duration consistent with individual patient treatment goals. Additionally, the concomitant use of Mobic with other NSAIDs or salicylates is not recommended due to the increased risk of gastrointestinal toxicity.
