What is Zyrtec /Cetirizine - non Rx used for?

Zyrtec is a medication used to treat or prevent hay fever, cold and allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, or runny nose. This medication also treats chronic urticaria (hives) symptoms including itching and swelling.

How should Zyrtec /Cetirizine - non Rx be stored?

How should I take Zyrtec/Cetirizine - non Rx ?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Zyrtec with or without food. When using the chewable tablet, make sure the tablet is chewed before swallowing. When using the liquid formulation, measure the dose with a measuring spoon or cup. Do not use a table spoon.

Do not use Zyrtec if you are allergic to cetirizine.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Zyrtec /Cetirizine - non Rx ?

Older patients may need to take a lower dose. When taking Zyrtec, it can make you sleepy impairing your thinking or reactions. Be careful when driving, operating any machinery, or do anything requiring you to be alert and awake. Also avoid alcohol as it can increase some side effects of the medication.

When should Zyrtec /Cetirizine - non Rx not be taken?

Most severe: Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat; weakness, tremors (uncontrolled shaking), or sleep problems (insomnia); severe restless feeling, hyperactivity; confusion; problems with vision; or urinating less than usual or not at all.

Most common: Dizziness, drowsiness; tired feeling; dry mouth; sore throat, cough; nausea, constipation; or headache.
