How should I take Viracept/Nelfinavir mesylate ?

Follow your doctor's exact instructions when taking Viracept. Take Viracept with a full glass of water. For best results, take Viracept with food as well. Remember to swallow the tablet whole. If you are unable to swallow the tablet, allow it to dissolve in a small amount of water, then stir the mixture and drink it immediately. Put a little bit of water into the empty glass and drink this as well.

When should Viracept /Nelfinavir mesylate not be taken?

Viracept should not be used if you are allergic to nelfinavir or if you have severe liver or kidney disease. Do not take Viracept with amiodarone, quinidine, pimozide, midazolam, triazolam, or an ergot medicine such as Ergomar, Cafergot, Wigraine, D.H.E. 45, Migranal, or Methergine. Do not take this Viracept while breast-feeding. Women with HIV should not be breast-feeding at all.

What precautions should I follow when taking Viracept /Nelfinavir mesylate ?

Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, a bleeding disorder, or high cholesterol or triglycerides. Schedule regular checkups and blood tests with your doctor to ensure your medication is working properly. Try to take your medication at the same time every day.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Viracept /Nelfinavir mesylate ?

If you are using didanosine, take it 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Viracept. Do not participate in unprotected sex or sharing needles, razors, or toothbrushes. Condoms are the best way at preventing the transmission of HIV during sex.

When should Viracept /Nelfinavir mesylate not be taken?

Serious side effects may include: allergic reaction; increased urination or extreme thirst; easy bruising or bleeding; or signs of a new infection.

Less severe side effects may include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, bloating, loss of appetite; tired feeling; headache, mood changes; or changes in the shape or location of body fat.
