What is Seasonique /Levonorgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol/Ethinyl Estradiol used for?

Seasonique contains a combination of female hormones that prevent pregnancy. The hormones in Seasonique also cause changes in the cervical mucus and uterine lining making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Seasonique can also be used for other purposes.

How should I take Seasonique/Levonorgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol/Ethinyl Estradiol ?

Take Seasonique as directed by your doctor. Do not take Seasonique in larger amounts or more often than recommended by your doctor. You can take your first pill on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period begins. You may need to use back-up birth control when you first start using Seasonique as it takes several weeks to become effective. You will not have a menstrual period every month while you are using Seasonique. Rather you will have a period every 12 weeks. The 91-day birth control pack contains 3 trays with cards that hold 84 hormonal pills and 7 non-hormonal pills. You must take the pills in the right order to keep a regular cycle. Trays 1 and 2 hold 28 pills. Tray 3 holds 35 pills, including 7 reminder (non- hormonal) pills. Your period should begin while you are using the reminder pills. Take one pill everyday at the same time. When the pack runs out, start a new pack the following day. You can get pregnant if you do not use Seasonique regularly. Have your prescription filled before you run out of pills. If you miss a dose of Seasonique, refer to the included information booklet or talk to your pharmacist.

When should Seasonique /Levonorgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol/Ethinyl Estradiol not be taken?

Do not use Seasonique if you are pregnant or if you recently had a baby. Do not use Seasonique if you have a history of stroke or blood clots, circulation problems, breast or uterine cancer, abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease or liver cancer, severe high blood pressure, migraine headaches, a heart valve disorder, or a history or jaundice caused by birth control pills. Seasonique can cause birth defects. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant while using Seasonique or if you miss two menstrual periods in a row.

What precautions should I follow when taking Seasonique /Levonorgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol/Ethinyl Estradiol ?

If you need to have any type of surgery or medical test while using Seasonique you may be asked to temporarily stop using this medication. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are on Seasonique. You may have breakthrough bleeding while using Seasonique. Some drugs can make Seasonique less effective. Tell your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications that you use. Tell your doctor about any medical conditions you may have before taking this medication. The hormones in Seasonique can pass into breast milk. Seasonique may also cause slow breast milk production. Do not use Seasonique if you are breast feeding a baby.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Seasonique /Levonorgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol/Ethinyl Estradiol ?

Your doctor will need to see you on a regular basis while you are using Seasonique. Do not miss any scheduled appointments. Taking hormones can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack, especially if you are older than 35 and if you smoke. Do not smoke while using Seasonique, especially if you are older than 35. Seasonique will not protect you from sexually transmitted infections. Using a condom is the only way to protect you from these infections.
