How should I take Remeron/Mirtazapine ?

Always follow the directions your doctor has given you when taking Remeron. Take the regular Remeron tablet with water. If you are taking the orally disintegrating tablet Remeron SolTab, peel the foil on the package back and remove the tablet with dry hands. Place the tablet in your mouth and let it dissolve, do not chew the tablet. Swallow several times as the tablet dissolves, no water is needed.

When should Remeron /Mirtazapine not be taken?

Avoid the use of Remeron if you are allergic to mirtazapine Do not take Remeron if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. Before taking Remeron, tell your doctor of any allergies you may have, or if you have: liver or kidney disease; bipolar disorder; seizures or epilepsy; heart disease; history of heart attack or stroke; or a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts.

What precautions should I follow when taking Remeron /Mirtazapine ?

You may have suicidal thoughts when you first start taking an antidepressant, especially if you are younger than 24 years older. Call your doctor if you have any new or worsening symptoms, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive, more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Remeron /Mirtazapine ?

It is not known if Remeron will harm an unborn baby or if Remeron will pass into the breast milk and harm a nursing child. Older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of Remeron. Do not consume alcohol while taking Remeron, as alcohol may increase some of the side effects. Remeron may impair your thinking or reactions and you should be careful when driving or participating in any activities that require you to be alert.

When should Remeron /Mirtazapine not be taken?

Serious side effects may include: allergic reaction; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips; or feeling like you might pass out.

Less severe side effects may include: drowsiness, dizziness, weakness; nausea, stomach pain; constipation; increased appetite, weight gain; dry mouth; or thirst.
