What is Prometrium /Progesterone used for?

Prometrium is a medication that is used to cause menstrual periods in women who have not reached menopause, but are not having periods as a result of a lack of progesterone. Prometrium is also used to prevent overgrowth in the lining of the uterus in postmenopausal women who are having estrogen hormone replacement therapy.

Avoid the use of Prometrium if you have: a history of breast cancer; abnormal vaginal bleeding that a doctor has not checked; liver disease; if you are pregnant; or if you have had a stroke, heart attack, or blood clot within the past year. Do not use Prometrium if you are allergic to peanuts as some forms of this medication may contain peanut oil.

What precautions should I follow when taking Prometrium /Progesterone ?

Prometrium can cause side effects that impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
