What is Oesclim Patch /Estradiol 17b used for?

The Oesclim Patch is a prescription treatment for menopausal symptoms. The Oesclim Patch is primarily formulated from estrogen, and supplements the body with this hormone as the ovaries begin to stop producing it. In this way, the Oesclim Patch reduces symptoms of menopause including hot flashes, abnormal bleeding, sweating and chills. The Oesclim Patch may also be used in the treatment of osteoporosis.

How should Oesclim Patch /Estradiol 17b be stored?

The Oesclim Patch should be stored at room temperature in an area that cannot be accessed by children and pets.

How should I take Oesclim Patch/Estradiol 17b ?

This medication is a prescription drug and should be used in the exact fashion that is described in your prescription. If your prescription is unclear, contact your health care provider for clarification. The Oesclim Patch should generally be applied to a clean and undamaged area of skin that has not been overly exposed to the sun; your doctor may recommend a specific area that minimizes irritation. Ensure that you tear the packaging of the patch instead of using scissors, as the patch is useless when cut open. Apply Oesclim Patch to your skin in a similar way to a nicotine patch or an adhesive bandage. Do not apply the Oesclim Patch to the same spot on your skin twice in a row.

When should Oesclim Patch /Estradiol 17b not be taken?

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the Oesclim Patch, do not use this medication. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use the Oesclim Patch. If you have a history of liver tumors, blood clots, stroke, heart attack, coronary heart disease, breast cancer, migraines, liver dysfunction, porphyria or any vision problems as a result of an eye disease, using this medication is not recommended. If you additionally have any form of estrogen dependant tumor, Oesclim Patch is not recommended for your use.

What precautions should I follow when taking Oesclim Patch /Estradiol 17b ?

Before you begin using Oesclim Patch, notify your doctor about any outstanding medical conditions or allergies you might have in order to ensure that it is safe for you to take this medication. If you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medications, be sure to let your doctor know in order to confirm that any medications you are currently taking won't interfere with the Oesclim Patch.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Oesclim Patch /Estradiol 17b ?

Your doctor may advise you to take another female hormone in addition to the Oesclim Patch called progestin if you have not had a hysterectomy to avoid problems that may occur if the estrogen in the Oesclim Patch is taken alone.
