How should I take Monopril HCTZ/Fosinopril Hctz ?

This medication should be taken exactly as it has been prescribed for you. When taking this medication, follow the directions on your prescription label. If you do not understand the directions on your prescription label, contact your healthcare provider for further clarification. Monopril tablets are generally taken with a full glass of water. While taking Monopril, ensure that you are properly hydrated. Do not stop taking Monopril without your doctor's advice.

When should Monopril HCTZ /Fosinopril Hctz not be taken?

If you are allergic to fosinopril or any other angiotensin converting enzymes, do not take Monopril. Do not take Monopril if you find that you are unable to urinate. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, you should not use this medication, as it could harm an unborn or breastfeeding child. This medication should not be administered to any child less than six years of age.

What precautions should I follow when taking Monopril HCTZ /Fosinopril Hctz ?

Before taking Monopril, tell your doctor if you have experienced any of the following: kidney disease; liver disease; diabetes; lupus; gout; or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to sulfa drugs. Your dosage may have to be adjusted accordingly.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Monopril HCTZ /Fosinopril Hctz ?

Antacids should not be taken within two hours of taking a Monopril tablet. Drinking alcohol while taking Monopril is not recommended, as it may lower your blood pressure to unsafe levels and additionally increases the severity of certain side effects that are associated with this medication. While taking Monopril, do not use any salt substitutes or potassium supplements unless your doctor has advised it.

When should Monopril HCTZ /Fosinopril Hctz not be taken?

Severe Side Effects: high potassium (slow heart rate, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling); low potassium (confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling); dry mouth, thirst, naus

Common Side Effects: cough; dizziness, headache, tired feeling; joint or muscle pain; diarrhea, constipation; or mild skin rash, increased sweating.
