Mezavant is used to treat ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and proctosigmoiditis by affecting the substances in the body that cause inflammation, tissue damage and diarrhea.

How should Mezavant /Mesalamine be stored?

How should I take Mezavant/Mesalamine ?

Mezavant should be taken exactly as it has been prescribed for you. When taking Mezavant, follow the directions on your prescription label. If you are confused by the directions on your prescription, contact your healthcare provider for further clarification before taking Mezavant. Mezavant tablets should generally be swallowed whole with a full glass of water, and can be taken with or without food.

When should Mezavant /Mesalamine not be taken?

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Mezavant tablets, do not take this medication. If you are allergic to <a href=" http://www.doctorsolve.com/productPage.aspx?DrugName=Aspirin+Extra+Strength ">aspirin</a> or other salicylates, taking Mezavant is not recommended.

What precautions should I follow when taking Mezavant /Mesalamine ?

Before taking Mezavant, let your doctor know if any of the following apply to you: you have a stomach condition called pyloric stenosis; you have a history of allergy to sulfasalazine (Azulfidine ); you have a heart condition such as congestive heart failure; you have kidney disease; or if you have liver disease. Your dosage may need to be adjusted in order for you to take Mezavant safely.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Mezavant /Mesalamine ?

Mezavant is not expected to be harmful to an unborn child; however, you should let your doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or if you are breastfeeding during treatment.

When should Mezavant /Mesalamine not be taken?

Severe Side Effects: severe stomach pain, cramping, fever, headache, and bloody diarrhea.

Common Side Effects: mild nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, gas; fever, sore throat, or other flu symptoms; constipation; headache or dizziness; tired feeling; or skin rash.
