Armour Thyroid is used in the treatment of an underactive thyroid. Armour Thyroid may also be used in the treatment or prevention of certain goiters and as an aid in diagnosing certain thyroid conditions. Keep at room temperature and protect from heat, moisture, and light. Always follow your doctor’s directions when taking Armour Thyroid. Different foods may affect how well Armour Thyroid is absorbed into your body. Ask your doctor about what foods you should take with Armour Thyroid. Try to take Armour Thyroid at the same time every day to receive the most benefit. Do not take cholestyramine or colestipol within 6 hours of taking Armour Thyroid.

Avoid the use of Armour Thyroid if you are allergic to any ingredient in the medication or if you have certain untreated adrenal gland problems or untreated high thyroid hormone levels. Before you begin using Armour Thyroid, let your doctor know of any medical conditions, especially if: you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have a history of chest pain, heart attack, heart blood vessel problems, or other heart problems; or you have a history of diabetes, overactive thyroid, long-term underactive thyroid, infertility, swelling of the skin, or pituitary gland problems, or if you will be having surgery. It may take 4 to 6 weeks for you to notice any benefit from Armour Thyroid.

Armour Thyroid should not be used to treat fertility problems or obesity in those with normal thyroid function as very serious and potentially life-threatening side effects may occur. Large doses of Armour Thyroid, especially when taken with diet pills may cause symptoms of toxicity. Children may experience temporary, partial hair loss during the first few months of taking this medication. Patients with diabetes must pay close attention to their blood sugar levels as Armour’s Thyroid can affect these levels. Let your dentist or doctor know you are taking Armour Thyroid before any dental procedure, emergency care, or surgery. Use Armour Thyroid with caution in the elderly as they may be more sensitive to the effects. Armour Thyroid is not shown to harm an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor as you dosage may need to be changed. Small amounts of thyroid hormones are found in the breast milk. Talk to your doctor about any potential risks of breast-feeding while taking Armour Thyroid.

Serious side effects may include: severe allergic reactions; changes in appetite; changes in menstrual periods; changes in weight; chest pain; diarrhea; excessive sweating; fast or irregular heartbeat; headache; inability to tolerate warm or hot temperatuThere have been no common side effects reported.
