This medication is used to prevent pregnancy and treats moderate acne in 14 years old or older women with menstrual periods. Yasmin is also used to treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) including depression, irritability, anxiety, breast tenderness, trouble concentrating, lack of energy, lack of energy, sleep or appetite changes, join or muscle pain, weight gain, and headache. Yasmin works by preventing the release of an egg from an ovary (ovulation) and cause changes to the uterine and cervical lining so it will be more difficult for the sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.This medication should be stored at room temperature. Keep the medication away from heat and moisture. Read the directions on the prescription label. Do not take larger doses than prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication as directed by your doctor. If you have the Yasmin 28 days pack, take Yasmin once, every day. If you have the Yasmin 21 days, take Yasmin once, every day until the pack is complete. Take no pills for the next 7 days because you are supposed to get your period and then begin your next pack. Do not take it more than 24 hours apart because it will increase your risk of becoming pregnant (except on the Yasmin 21 day pack when you are on the 7 day no pill period). It is very important to continue the pill every day, make sure your prescription gets refilled before the pills run out completely. When taking Yasmin, you may experience breakthrough bleeding. Let your doctor know if this continues or becomes very heavy. Inform all medical doctors and surgeons that you are using Yasmin because you may need to stop taking Yasmin for a short period of time. When you are taking Yasmin, you will need to see your doctor regularly, it is important not to miss any doctor appointments. You will also need to perform self examinations on your breasts checking for lumps when you are on Yasmin.Do not take this medication if you are pregnant because it can cause birth defects to an unborn baby. Also, do not take Yasmin if you are allergic to drospirenone or ethinyl estradiol; have a history of stroke, blood clot, circulation problems (especially if caused by diabetes); an adrenal gland disorder; a history of jaundice caused by birth control pills; kidney or liver disease; a heart valve disorder, migraine headaches, severe high blood pressure; breast or uterine cancer; abnormal vaginal bleeding.Let your doctor know if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, breastfeeding; seizures or epilepsy; if you have high cholesterol or if you are overweight; a history of depression, irregular menstrual cycles, or history of breast or uterine cancer; high blood pressure or heart disease; gallbladder disease; diabetes; or liver cancer.When taking Yasmin, do not smoke, especially if you are older than 35 because it will increase your risk of stroke, blood clots, or heart attack.
