US Legislation May Hinder America's Access to Online Pharmacies

Misguided efforts by Congress and officials in the White House over the past two years may take away your ability to order medications online; even from trusted and certified sources like DoctorSolve.com. There are two serious and imminent issues which threaten to obstruct America's access to safe, imported prescription drugs.

The initial threat is posed by pending legislation on Capitol Hill known as the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011 (Protect IP Act). This new bill replaces last year’s Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA). COICA would have generated a blacklist of pharmacy websites for companies such as Google, Visa, MasterCard, PayPal and Network Solutions to block; the concern is that this list could mistakenly include reputable online pharmacies such as DoctorSolve.com. The Protect IP Act impedes your access to your medication by classifying all non-U.S. online pharmacies as a risk to public health. Therefore targeting all certified online pharmacies, including DoctorSolve.com. If the Protect IP Act is passed, online international pharmacies would no longer be available to Americans and would be prohibited from defending themselves against those who shut them down.

The subsequent threat comes directly from the White House, which in December 2010 announced the administration’s plans to completely shut down online pharmacy sites by “encouraging” Internet service providers, credit card companies, and search engines to bar America's access to them.

Many people believe pressure from the multinational pharmaceutical corporations is behind these new laws. Commercial drug corporations have tried to persuade the American public that internationally sourced medicines are unsafe. The American public should have access to legitimate certified pharmacies for safe and affordable medications.

You can prevent this legislation from becoming law by taking action now. How to Deal with a Sunburn

Due to the proven link between sun exposure and skin cancer, sun screen is emphasized more now than ever before. Society is now moving from the mentality of sun screen as an unnecessary chore to a must have before exposing oneself to direct sun light. The skin cancer awareness campaigns have been relatively successful. Many Americans are now educated on how to prevent sun damage, but are not quite aware of what steps to take to treat sun burns. Treatments of sun burns are very important. The following are five safe and easy solutions on how to treat sunburn.

  • Cold Water- This treatment is best done for immediate relief. The water must be cold, but must not be ice water. By soaking the affected area in cold water, the swelling decreases and heat is transferred away from your skin.
  • Oatmeal Bath- If the burn covers much of the body then taking an oatmeal bath in cool water is your best option. Quakers Oats or even regular ground up oatmeal work well. The Aveeno product line also carries a powder called Aveeno Colloided Oatmeal that works just as well as an oatmeal bath. Oatmeal works best because oatmeal will absorb the heat from the first layer of skin as well as allow the skin to retain its natural oils.
  • Green Tea and Peppermint Tea cloth soak- By soaking a cloth in cooled green tea or peppermint tea and gently applying it to your skin, it will protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation damage and reduce inflammation. Peppermint also has a chilling effect.
  • Vinegar- Soaking paper towels in vinegar and then applying them on your skin until it dries will make it act like aspirin for your skin. The ingredients in vinegar will reduce pain, itching, and inflammation. Since the vinegar is already out, start mixing it with baking soda to make a paste. Apply this paste onto your skin and cover it while you sleep.
  • Pure Aloe Vera- You could either apply directly from the plant or in gel form from your drug store. The vitamins and minerals in pure Aloe Vera work wonders for your skin.

The Fruity Reality

There have been mixed feelings between fruit intake and its effects on weight loss for the past several years. Some people insist that fruits contribute to fat production and increase weight problems. However, others argue that the fat production effects of fruit are nonexistent and that Americans need to increase their fruit intake. To clear the air, it is time to focus on fruits and debunk the myths.

Fact or Fiction?

Fiction: Eating fruits can make you fat. Eating too much of anything can cause weight gain, however, the reality is that the number of overweight Americans is increasing because Americans are not eating enough healthy foods such as fruit. To actually gain weight from eating fruit, one needs to consume well over the recommended intake.

Fact: Americans need to eat more fruit. Many Americans are eating nutrient deficient, high calorie foods which are causing higher rates of obesity and medical problems. The Obama administration introduced new food guidelines earlier this year encouraging Americans to fill up half of their plates with fruits and vegetables.

Fact: Certain health conditions may require afflicted patients to regulate fruit intake. Diabetic patients are advised to limit consumption of fruits in order to maintain a safe blood sugar level.

Fiction: Fruit can cause tooth decay. Fresh fruits have more water and fiber than sugar, thus they tend to cleanse the teeth rather than coat them with sugar.

Fiction: Drinking fruit juice is an alternative method of fulfilling your fruit and vegetable requirements. Although half a cup of fruit juice does qualify as one serving of fruits/vegetables, additional consumption of fruit juice does not. This is because fruit juice lacks the amounts of fiber found in fresh fruit. In addition, consuming recommended amounts of fiber from natural sources such as fresh fruit prevents the need to use fiber supplements . When purchasing fruit juice remember to look for juices with only naturally occurring sugars.

Fiction: Fresh fruit are more nutritious than frozen fruits. The fruits displayed at the grocery store are usually not as fresh as they seem to be. Most likely some of these fruits have been picked weeks ago and have been ripening or aging on the road before they even arrive at the grocery store. On the contrary, frozen or canned fruit are often picked and frozen at their peak; thus maintaining high amounts of vitamins and minerals. When shopping for frozen or canned fruits, avoid fruits stored in syrups or refined sugars.

Fact: Eating fresh fruits and vegetables can help you meet your nutritional requirements. As with other nutrients, it is best to consume vitamins and minerals from natural sources rather than taking vitamin and mineral supplements . Fresh fruit and veggies also contain anti-oxidants which reduce the occurrence of certain diseases.

Fun Fact: Strawberries are related to roses. Believe it or not, strawberries are categorized in the same family as the rose plant; Rosaceae. Apples, apricots, cherries, and blackberries are also classified in the same family.
